Infotainment System Issues

Happy new year to everyone!

I have an issue with the infotainment system in my 840i.

The infotainment system was working ok, but i then noticed yesterday that the Spotify app had stopped working with the car. I thought i would resent the software in the car.

This is when my problems started. Since then i do not have many apps (just personal assistance and bmw assistance). I also do not have BMW Messages in the main com menu, see attached pics.

Perhaps more importantly I do not have BMW messages showing either so when i add the car using the VIN, i cannot enter to code to connect it as no message is received (even though it says it is sent). I have tried everything more than once... including removing the app, resetting the car (more than once), changing passwords (for some reason the login on the website was not accepting the password at one point even though it was right).

I am getting frustrated with the connected services in the car. Previously, since having it, my phone often would not connect (it is android) and i have to manually remove it and add it again. I also have it connected but not coming out of the speakers... although this is normally easily sorted out. One time this happened i reset the car but did not need to reconnect it with the app (using the vin and the code) as it was remembered, so i must have done something different this time, to disconnect the car from the account.

Yesterday the Spotify app did come back and i managed to pair ok, but i wanted to reconnect the app with the car so tried again to reset it.... now i am back to still not having it connected and also having no Spotify!

I have tried the enable all services, use wi-fi etc, nothing seems to bring the apps or BMW messages back. The only thing i have not done is enabled android auto as this does not seem to work when the phone uses a vpn which then causes phone to come up with errors over and over again when the android auto connection fails.....

Has anyone else had these problems? I have no idea how to get all the apps back that i had previously not how to get the car so it can see messages from BMW. Aby comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Garage List
Try clicking on the left side of your apps screen to show that menu. Leave top choice Installed Apps highlighted. Click the option button on the center console. You should get a pop up offering to update. Select with controller. Also try reloading services/BMW Store - further down app menu bar.

Try as suggested above - but I had the same thing and had to have a full software update at a dealer unfortunately.

Thanks for the message. I have tried updating the apps, this brings up the updating apps dialogue but then nothing changes. I just tried again a couple of minutes ago and initially this failed.

I have also tried the BMW store, i am trying to remember what options i had but none seemed relevant. i dont have the BMW store anymore.

Any more ideas? lol

Go to dealer or try troubleshooting with BMW Assist by phone. Think you have latest software version available OTA.

Did you hold volume button for about 70 secs to reboot? Goes on & off a few times. First step if no.

Try to reboot the idrive system by pressing and holding volume button until it restarts… (around 20-30s).

Yeah it was only like 6 weeks old when it happened to me - tried the connected drive helpline first and they tried to do it OTA for me, but it didn't work unfortunately. Definitely a warrant fix don't worry.

Did a reboot....

When it restarted, the phone connected but only for audio, the phone and apps icons are greyed out. I also had to connect via the car to the phone, from the phone to the car would not connect.

Android auto and apple cap play greyed out saying the key needs to be in the car (which it was).

Seems the system is screwed....!

Pics attached although is it difficult to see the options which are greyed out and which are white and can be selected.

This is my first BMW (moving from Mercedes!!).... the car is ok, but there are some really annoying and frustrating things about it..... the infotainment system being the main one!

You sure everything is enabled (general settings - data privacy(?) & app? Maybe delete profile & start over?

No, come to think of it, the data collection and privacy option has not come up for a while.... it did earlier today though.

Where is that option? I know it sounds odd, but I think there are several parts of the system missing.

When i went back in the car again, the previously greyed out options were n o longer greyed out and i could access.

Try home - car - settings - general settings - data privacy - toward bottom of left menu -

Wow and that proves something is absolutely corrupted in your iDrive! Good luck with the dealer sorting it out. I'm guessing they will just do an overlay with the 07/2021 software to resolve the issue.

We as it Ian OTA update or dealer installed?
11.21 won't be OTA until 03/22. They're always lagged 4 months. The only way to get it before then is the dealer (or by knowing where to download the software yourself if you're adventurous and spit in the face of warranties &#128514

Dealer installed - as mentioned above, latest OTA is only 07.21
