Just a short year or so ago shit was stuck like no other on the dealer lots... hell in Dec of 2020 I got my M8 GC Comp for 103k with 1700 miles on it (154k msrp). The retail asking was around 122k back then or so and now I can wholesale the damn thing for more than that.

The world's largest auto retailer normally has around 2000 cars on the lot, today its under 200
We should have bought every car in sight a year ago. And sold today for a big profits.

Hindsight is 20/20 but you're absolutely spot on. It would have seemed like a risky move at the time but of course to your point paying off in spades now.

For what it's with the same thing goes with building materials. OSB was going for 12 to 15 bucks a sheet depending on the volume of the buy and now sits at nearly $60 a sheet if you can find it so easily could get $70 a sheet with the law of supply and demand. Then again what's the fun in sitting on a stockpile of lumber when you can have 2 or 3 M8s to drive a bit while waiting to cash in on the profits.
yeah you need a waterproof warehouse to hold lumber.

M8s can be stored anywhere.

My shopping has brought to the conclusion if there is a car in stock the dealers want ADM irregardless that is has been there 4 months or more- these are slow sellers by any measure.

Rule of thumb, i.e., never pay MSRP for anything. That said unless you are absolutely flush in cash to the point it does not matter all M8s can be purchased below MSRP. The discount will vary as that is supply/demand but the 2020s and 2021s out there on dealer lots will have the greatest discount vs the new MSRP adjusted 2022s. Even if you walk into a dealer and order a 2022 the absolute minimum should be 4% off MSRP and with negotiations closer to 6% to 8% off. For a 2022 on the lot I'd start with the 6 to 8% off and negotiate up from there.

Are you see these kind of discounts only on M8 vs m850i?

This was in Jan - local dealer didn’t want to buy out my 650xi CV, offered 6% off 840i or M850 CV with no negotiation as a repeat customer. Went to a dealer an hour away (also repeat), and got 10% before loyalty on an in stock 840i CV, but with a markup on the lease rate +$2.2k equity from the 650. Would have loved the M850/M8 (esp at 2020 lease rates), but times are what they are and we love these BMW grand touring CV’s. With an avg speed of 30’ish mph, the 840 does everything we need + a much needed tech upgrade over the 650.

With the facelift hitting the floor in a couple months, can we expect a better discount now or will the discounts not start until the 2023 arrives?

Every single M8 that is currently in stock is only there because they want a big ADM, the last one i called on wanted $20k over.

There will be no discounts and i wouldn't plan on seeing a 2023 on the ground until May/June. My 2022 has been sitting at the factory for over a month now.

I bought one in Colorado (In stock) at MSRP and free shipping and pickup of my trade. Plus received the Loyalty. Not a great deal by any means but better than paying ADM which makes no sense on this car.

Well I am actually working a deal right now for only a 1% discount. I haven't pulled the trigger because I will be trading in a S coupe and I am not sure if I want the take a step backwards in regards to luxury. But If I decide not to take it then I will let you know.

Picked up my 2022 M8GC today for 8% off MSRP. I do have an extensive relationship with this dealership though, with over a dozen BMW’s leased from them and even more referrals to them.
