MSRP

Question for the group, I assume you can expect to pay MSRP for the M8?

Rule of thumb, i.e., never pay MSRP for anything. That said unless you are absolutely flush in cash to the point it does not matter all M8s can be purchased below MSRP. The discount will vary as that is supply/demand but the 2020s and 2021s out there on dealer lots will have the greatest discount vs the new MSRP adjusted 2022s. Even if you walk into a dealer and order a 2022 the absolute minimum should be 4% off MSRP and with negotiations closer to 6% to 8% off. For a 2022 on the lot I'd start with the 6 to 8% off and negotiate up from there.

I think the problem now is the chip shortage is creating an inventory shortage....that makes it tough to deal ( I think).

Just a few months ago you would have been talking about 11% + flagship cash + loyalty or any other rebates you qualify for putting you comfortably north of 20% off for a 2020 model. Now, due to the shortages, you're looking at the 6-8% bloozemanAZ mentions. You may just have to do some legwork to get it done, but there are plenty of dealers that would like to move these cars while they can to make sure they don't get stuck with them for 12+ months.

My advice would be to get in touch with Next Level Auto Brokers, looks like he may have access to an allocation for a GC at 7% off + loyalty and he'll do the legwork for you at a nominal fee.

Never. Not with a more/less common car. Limited M5CS maybe?

Thank you...not sure what is up with all the dealers I am talking to. Does anyone have any recommendations across the US...at this point, I am just ready to have it shipped.

Yes as it will influence the supply side of the supply/demand pricing curve in the way of discounts. Interestingly enough based on cars.com there are only two "new" 2020 M8s on dealers lots but others may exist including dealer only "used" models that were put into the service loaner pool.

As for the 2022s, there are about 100 in play (either on a lot or in-transit to the dealer). That is a far cry from the 300+ of the 2020s that sat on dealers lots month in and month out until the 20% easy discounts started moving them. Bottom line is MSRP is still a no go but 6 to 8% may be the cap on a discount (plus any loyalty incentives, etc.).

Not in the market for another M8 myself, but I did ask the sales manager at my Florida dealership about new car pricing a couple of weeks ago. Sure there are exceptions, however they're pretty much holding to MSRP minus any manufacturer supported incentives. (This dealership also won't willingly give you one of their 3-series loaners unless you bought your car from them.) After the 2019 M850i and 2020 M8 leftover debacles, there must be a bean counter in Munich determining how many vehicles to produce, assuring scarcity so they don't have to offer flagship, trunk, or loyalty money to move unsold units. When they artificially reduced the price of each vehicle by 13K, BMW must have had a good idea about upcoming supply chain constraints. I haven't run the numbers, but I strongly suspect that many of us who purchased our cars in 2020 did much better than people who are buying their cars now.

Generally yes. It's partly the reason I choose the BMW over the Mercedes. The identical convertible from MB was MSRP $40k higher and $0 discounts and 0% off MSRP. Added fees and taxes and it's considerably higher.
BMW m850i cv was $40k cheaper and 20% off sticker; with taxes and fees it was still around 10% under MSRP total.

Yes and No. used cars prices are through the roof right now. You can sell almost any 3 year old car for 80-90% of sticker. More than 2x what it should be worth "fair market" value. For example, my wife's 2013 SUV was $8k pre COVID, $5k during last summer; and now she's getting dealerships wholesale offers for $22,000 for the same SUV. Cash is king right now, as chip shortages have made cars hard to get.

Back to the m8; it's not difficult to get. It's not that much different in price curve and markup from any other BMW coupe.
You should be able to get 10% off any new m8 order; and maybe more for anything on the lots. Definitely a lot more if it's been on the lots over 90 days. But I doubt anything is on the lots over 10 days. Most dealerships are running a 5 day supply. They usually have a 90 day supply. So it's definitely a "sellers" market and dealerships know they can jack the rates.

That said; reach out to multiple dealerships to find the best ones to play ball. For me, that involves going to Richmond Virginia in order to get out of the "DC" bubble.

I was able to get a pretty great deal on my '19 M5 (~99K on a 115K MSRP), despite them being brand new to lots in Aug 2018. That same dealer when I started discussions on my M8 GC was clear they weren't going to do that again. Compound this by the incredibly low stock of non-black M8 GC's, it really is a sellers market. I ended up going to a dealer about 3 hours away to get my Barcelona Blue one, and got 1% off MSRP. Your mileage may vary, especially if you can find a dealer willing to budge, with older stock, or you're willing to compromise on options/color.

What does everyone think about reasonable discount on 2020 M8 (new) still on dealer lot?

Only two left a few days ago when I checked as per my earlier post. So now it is down to the 100 plus 2022s on the lot, in transit or a custom order

I still see a couple left. Thinking about pulling the trigger on one of those or waiting until December for one of the remaining 2021 M850i GC.

Just wanted to check to see what someone thought would be achievable discount off MSRP would be.

In today's world; you're guess is as good as mine. I will say that across the board BMW MSRP is about 10% over invoices and that's 10% over dealerships triple bottom line costs. Now the new 2022 have been discounted a ton. And there isn't many 2019, 2020 or even 2021 left on the lots. So supply and demand might mean you need to pay up.

I've always taken the approach to go in very low and see what they can do to get there. (Free floor mats, free chargers, freebies). With my BMW, I got a $50 rc card for my kid, the $100 floating hub caps, $200 all weather m8 mats, $50 wheel locks, and some credits)

So far, everyone is at MSRP. One dealer said in a recent meeting that they had with BMW National, they were expecting this shortage to last 14-16 months.

I just bought a '22 M850i and had to do some serious negotiating to get $1700 off. The SA said he just sold one for $5k over MSRP.

Hate to say it, but it's looking like MSRP is the new norm.

This thread is a microcosm of the US Economy's ebb and flow in the auto business for sure. MMR is at all time high and high bid ACVS are crazy.

Just a short year or so ago shit was stuck like no other on the dealer lots... hell in Dec of 2020 I got my M8 GC Comp for 103k with 1700 miles on it (154k msrp). The retail asking was around 122k back then or so and now I can wholesale the damn thing for more than that.

The world's largest auto retailer normally has around 2000 cars on the lot, today its under 200
