Tire wear on 2021 M8 GC

So I only have 6,500 miles on my 2021 M8 GC.

The rear tires are completely bald (4/32). I have never once tracked the car. Heck, I havent even used launch control yet due to the fact I couldnt ever get it engaged. Sure, I drive it like it should be driven but have never done any sort of donut or got the tires spinning much at all.

As I understand Pirelli made a special tire just for the M8?

Has anyone else had this bad of wear in such low miles?

Brake squeaking is bad enough after such low miles
But dealer just basically said thats normal as well.

Performance tires wear out quick. Many factors potentially can cause that, but if they mechanically check it out and its all good. I would say yeah just wear. That's a lot of power in a BIG car and if you drive/brake on the aggressive side then yes.

Just from my POV, I had 6 track days on my X5MC and went through 4 sets of tires within 12k miles. That being said I know you didn't track it but these vehicles are asking a lot from the tires even just daily driving.

X-drive cars are notorious for chewing through tyres unfortunately - I remember seeing a number of forum posts on it (not just on 8er's or indeed M cars).

This pretty much sums it up. I've seen summer performance tires ready for replacement at 10K miles.

I'm at about 5500 miles on my m8c with Pirellis and they are about gone and will swap out at next service at 6k miles.

My x6mc got all the way to about 10k before I swapped them out, they were Michelins tho. Not sure if it makes a difference.

Pirelli tires

Pirellis's are really terrible. Tried to have them swapped at PC before delivery, but no Michelins available.
Lasted 6 track days, down to cord. Terrible in the wet, but fun to be at limit at every turn. Great on a wet skid pad though!!

Anyone found a good brake pad for track?

Performance friction says not enough demand to make.

So tires are done in <10,000 miles? Holy $hit! So what are good tires that give decent traction and mileage?
$1500 for new tires before the first oil change. Oh how nice.

Welcome to the world of almost exotic... lol

It's like people asking why does your lambo only have 8k miles, if I owned it I would drive it every day rain or shine. In comes regular maintenance.

All seriousness aside, that is why I always have a random other vehicle.

Yep, same was true for my M3, I was thrilled if I got 10000 miles out of tires, especially the rears. It's a much softer compound to provide the grip, so they'll wear out much quicker. Sure, you could go to something else... but you'll be sacrificing traction.

I have about 15,000 miles on my car... about 6,000 of that has been on winter tires, so for my remaining 9,000 on the MPS4S - I have replaced 2 front and 4 rear.

This has become the norm

In 1993 I bought my first new Acura NSX.Yokohama developed a bespoke set of tires for that car in conjunction with Acura. They gripped like crazy and also wore out in under 10k miles. There were accidents because of bald rear tires, a class action suit, and presto! I got vouchers for 3 sets of rear tires from Acura.

Back then people were APPALLED that tires could wear out so quickly. They won the suit based on Acura’s lack of warning about the quickly melting tires. Does BMW issue a warning? Or even an advisement that the tires will probably be toast in 10k or less?

I thought there was only one accident reported due to wet traction? If I remember correctly the courts found no wrong doing and there is no warning requirements. (not trying to defend Acura, it was in the 90's but I don't recall anything actually happening).

Or was it an re-alignment option offered? I know Yokohama gave discounts or a coupon... Crap I can't remember.

HAHA okay I had to dive deep here: I found this http://www.nsxprime.com/nsx-faq/tire...els/alignment/

Seems like it was a re-alignment if the owner wanted too. The tires are wearing out on the edge, our tires are just wearing out so I don't think its mechanical.

I just noticed the Michelin Pilot Spot 4S does come with a 30,000 mile treadwear warranty... though this is cut in half when the rears are different than the fronts and thus cannot be rotated. If the tire shows even wear and you use 75% (2/32nds) of the tire within 12 months, they'll replace it (OEM delivered tires don't count), if it's more than 12 months, they'll prorate it based on your actual usage vs the 15,000 miles.

Granted, I'm pretty sure you'd need a different alignment to be able to display even wear, though, the stock camber on a competition car simply won't allow for it.

I don’t remember anything about the alignment issue, but I do remember 3 free sets of rear tires from Yokohama. I just presented the vouchers at the dealer. I used them all.

These cars are set up for maximum performance and the suspension is one of the components. Extreme camber settings, soft compound tires to get an extra .02 on the skid pad....all manufacturers do this on their high performance cars. Case in point.....I had one Merc C63 AMG, only 4K on the tires and the tread readings were 2/32 on the outside, and 5/32 on the inside of the front tires....so check the tires when the SA state they are bald and get readings on the sides and middle; adjust camber to neutral if needed. If you do not want max cornering potential.....check the tread wear ratings on the replacement tires...some tires are so soft, and sticky so the tire manufacturer will not give a rating...most ratings I see are 300 for the BMW M850, I have seen one tire at 560. BMW will try and sell you a OEM tire that will not last. I had also a 2010 BMW 335ix M sport and could muster only 6K on Bridgestone Potenza RE050A. Also add the fact you can not rotate the tires because of the staggered set up. You are set up for an expensive ride.... Welcome to the world of high performance cars....

yeah unfortunately it doesnt cover OEM tires which makes absolutely no sense at all but thats their warranty

For anyone looking for a good non-ultra performance tire set up, I threw Michelin PS All Season 4s on my M850ix GC at 10k miles. I measured them today at 18k as I was curious about the wear. They're all at 8/32 (out of 10/32). I drive pretty spiritedly so I'm pleased with the wear. I keep the tires at 42 psi up front and 44 out back like the label says.

These tires perform great in the Michigan weather. The original tires were the oem p zeros and I would say the all seasons are a touch louder and a touch mushier around corners if you're pushing it, but good enough for street performance. The pirellis are terrible in the wet and/or cold.
