BMW M8 (or 8 series) Valentine One V1 hardwire mirror tap
I wasn't able to find any info on this forum so I thought I would post to confirm it is possible and it is super EZ (15 min tops)
I ended up using this guide from a different forum. Lots of pictures and most of them are close enough to ours to work: https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1594592 I did NOT remove that whole unit from the mirror area (his 3rd pic) I only pulled out the large connector that he tapped. The wire colors are different but the locations are the same. Red tap to right most slot, black tap to last wire slot (4th from right). I also did not feel the need to notch that black bracket for the wire to come out. I tucked it into the headliner and then pulled it out. The headliner pinched the wire in place and then went right into my V1. Just in case the link above breaks or becomes unavailable I will post the important info below. HTH! I actually just installed the MirrorTap with a BlendMount in my M850 yesterday and I think I used that same X3 forum thread!

I have done the same with the V1 Generation 2, BlendMount and mirror tap. There is another thread floating around here that is similar to this one. See the thread starting around Message #10 at this link: https://f92.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1754729
The installation was quite easy, but I've run into an issue - intermittent epidemics of false laser readings. I troubleshot this to an apparent cause: An inconveniently located touchscreen sensor along the left margin of the iDrive screen that apparently comes into view of the V1G2. When I cover that iDrive screen area with my hand, the V1V2 false laser readings cease. Consequently, I have removed the ViG2 from the mount, kept it powered by the mirror tap and moved it high on the windshield just to the driver's side of the mirror (using the suction cups). So far, that has resolved all issues. I'd be interested in hearing if anyone else experiences similar complications.

Question: while your Gen2 was on the BlendMount, did you experience laser issues from the gesture control sensors?

I originally used suction cups and put mine where yours is and I actually preferred that placement. However, in Minnesota, RD are legal but mounting anything to your windshield is not. Not wanting to give them any reason to ding me.

For me with the Gen1 I just disabled Laser as it is not prevalent in my area and the experts all feel without laser jammers, e.g., ALP, TMG, etc. you'll likely end up with a ticket anyway as by the time the detector will alert it's too late. However, with the Gen2 you can individually disable the rear laser sensor which works perfectly to deal with the gesture controls and still offer whatever protection possible from the front sensor. This can be done via hard programming (instructions on the V1 site) or via a JBV1 profile. Lastly there must be enough difference between the convertible mirror mount (I'm assuming it is lower) than the coupe so the V1 Gen2 in the BlendMount is immune to the front Laser sensor falsing from the iDrive screen's sensor. For convertible owners the only solution is likely what Ozzie8 did in the way of a windshield mount. |

Is this a switched source, or on a delay? It’s showing 12v even when the cars not on.

Did the mirror tap today for my V1 v1. Thought to post a couple of photos to show a close up of which wires to tap and also a photo of the bezel removed, snaps apart in two pieces.
My V1 keeps giving out false alarms no matter which side of the upper windshield it's located. Guess I either need to turn off the laser feature or bite the bullet and get a new detector. Question is which one?? |

No issues. Just blocks sight of the V1 and rear facing laser. But radar works fine with it down(esp in a convertible where the top is always down) I never look at it, I've had so many versions of the V1 for so many years/cars that I lost count I know all the sounds by heart. Just annoying if its beeping like crazy to mute I have to flip it up and down again but I am almost always wearing sunglasses if I am driving it so it's not usually even necessary to use the visor.

The convertibles don't get gesture control and I don't have any issues with crazy false alerts, but I also have the latest v2 version and don't have any experience with the v1 version in this car. |

If you don’t want to turn off gestures, I have the GC and find that moving the V1 away from the mirror horizontally/left helps. I’ll still get false alarms now and again but generally no issues.

U have to either turn off laser completely or put electric tape on the gesture control sensor. Turning it off from idrive doesn't do anything.

Hey friends, ressurecting this thread as I've followed the instructions and everything turns on but won't power down even after I lock the car. There's defniitely still power to the device after a few minutes. Anyone else experience the same thing? What was the resolution if someone fixed it?

Eventually turns off after 10 mins. The draw is so low so shouldn’t be an issue.
