Anyone have midrand interior? Thoughts?

I'm considering trying to finally get away from 30 years of black interiors. I'm too nervous to get white or silver. I'm planning on (I think) Santorini blue for the exterior. Any thoughts pro or con on the midrand? It looks like a nice rich color in pictures and seems like it would go well with the blue exterior. Also thoughts on the full midrand vs the midrand/black combo?

Love that combo - I'd normally go for black/red with a blue, but thinks that works better with darker shades like tanzanite etc

Well you asked for opinions….I have never liked mid brown/tan interiors, find black BMW interiors dreary (I have one!) …with that colour paint (really nice) I would be going for a very pale cream interior.

At the end of the day go,for whatever floats your boat!

I don't think I could tolerate a red interior long term.

I'm ok with black interiors as they are safe and I never have to wonder what the color is going to look like, but I'm looking to branch out some with this one. As I mentioned though, I'm not brave enough to get a white interior. I hear they do ok as far as getting marred with colors, but I'd rather be safe.

I love that interior, but I’m biased to light browns and caramels, I think they look rich in cars especially against blues, greys, and silver exteriors. I have cognac on my 850 and love it! Very similar to Midrand. I would have got the m8 in this midrand just to get that quilted color. Black is SOOOOOOO dark and boring, reminds me of man-cave standard cheapo black leather couches.
I have two different friends of mine both with different tastes that each say they are tired of their red interiors. There is a reason why you never saw red interiors on anything past the 70’s lol.

Go for it. Looks amazing and your the one that’s gonna have to live with it.

As per Beemer5to3, generally red goes best with a darker blue exterior but I've seen it in a similar lighter blue such as Santorini, e.g., Barcelona Blue and it is stellar. As per tolerating a red interior long term, I had the same reservations but rolled the dice on my 2020 M850i with Tanzanite Blue exterior and 2 years into the car I love the interior as much as day 1 if not more. It doesn't hurt that every time time someone interested in the car in a parking lot, etc. have nothing but positive (usually including an expletive) on how gorgeous the interior is once they see it.

That said I've had mid range as an option in some of my prospective M8 builds for the future as I've seen it in person and depending on the exterior color it would be my choice over Silverstone (too light in my perspective to your point). So just throwing it out there that Sakhir Orange/Black in full leather would be a great interior option for a Santorini Individual exterior build.

When we drove a triple black M8c Gran Coupe in Germany, that interior felt cheaper and less special than our coupe ivory /tartufo. Just drab and dark with the black headliner.
Full Midrand seems like a good choice is unless Red or Ivory would be a consideration...

I like both of the midrand interiors shown… tasteful contrast in the cabin really does look better; feels “luxury” level. Wish I’d been able to find something like that when searching for my M850i…

I've seen the midrand and black combo on a few M8s and it looks absolutely stunning. Also note that the sides of the seats are alcantara which adds a little bit to the interior as well.

I think that full midrand might be a bit brave though!

I've seen full mid range aka not the mid range and black alcantara cloth and I'd go with the full mid range. It is no different than the other full leather options which covers the console etc. and is definitely more luxurious and aesthetically appealing vs extended.

The full midrand is definitely the bolder of the 2, although I'd like to see what it looks like before committing to it. Full midrand maybe looks a little more luxury where as the combo looks a little more sporty?

Also, does anyone know how the alcantara holds up on the side bolsters over time?

Personally I wouldn’t worry about a light interior ‘getting marred with colours’. My f34 had the gorgeous very pale cream interior, the only issue I had was some ‘blue’ coming off my wife’s jeans when it was brand new (the car that is, not the wife), wiped off with a damp cloth (the car that is, not the wife) and….that was it.

This would have been my choice if I wasn't limited and trying to get a deal when I picked up mine. The alcantara is a nice touch, and it also helps grip you a little better.

Yup.

So what are your thoughts on your mystery color? How did the alcantara hold up?

I have had many an alcantara equipped car including a fully custom Porsche Turbo S designed from the seats to the panels; I have never had an issue with BMW or any other brand alcantara.

Of course Im not a sloppy grease monkey or sweat hog either where alcantara can attract oils and liquids and sponge it up.

The M8 level of quality is excellent with the material and it gives the cabin a richness feel IMHO while not degrading over time.

Was planning on updating the thread with your experience given an older thread with your feedback on my similar question. Ultimately, best to get it straight from you given you are a north star at least in my opinion due to your knowledge based on years of ownership across all brands vs just BMW.
