Hi all,

Thought I'd start a new thread on this - I had mentioned it in my knocking noise from the rear thread, but upon further investigation and after being in the dealer it appears that it's most likely related to the M-sport Limited Slip Diff, and it's an issue BMW are aware of.

Has anyone had this issue they can report back on? Kind of like a knock / clunk noise that comes from the rear of the car when pulling away with any steering lock on, or sometimes at low speed car park manoeuvre.

My car is a 2020 840i sDrive.

Appreciate any insight / experience anyone has.

Update - this is resolved. After 4 days in with the dealer, a new differential has had to be fitted and the noises have all gone.

Whew ! Warranty right? I can imagine the bill to replace the M diff in our cars.....gulp. No thanks.
Glad I bought extended warranty. So worth it. Just for the piece of mind alone.

Yeah warranty thank god - car has only just tipped over a year old. I dread to think of the bill otherwise!

You'd think that has to make your car a zero profit car for BMW. After paying the dealers costs and labor plus the parts......bye by-o profit-o.
That's a pretty big lump to replace. Before I bought the car I decided to buy the extended warranty. Peace of mind is a nice extra to get with a car.

I've just bought my 840i 3 days ago, and mighty relived to hear you got it resolved via warranty. On the phone first thing in the morning. Cheers!

I get that same clunk when cold, turning. Brought it into the specialty shop, and they said it was the summer tires. In the winter they are super hard and will cause that noise when turning.

We'll see if its present as the weather gets warmer.

That more sounds like it’ll be from the front, so isn’t related to the diff. It’s to do with the suspension setup.
