To all you idiots who believe it's still $1000... go make more drama over some other crap. $200 exhaust ticket.

Typical scare tactics with the $1,000 fine/state ref talk.

N=1 but I passed by an officer today and was barely able to bring down my RPMs before I saw him on the other side of a fairly open road. We made eye contact and he gave me a nod but didn't bother to turn around or pull me over. I'm running catless DP and muffler delete.

I'd just be careful around CHP, same as always.

Here is the guy who got the ticket

I don't like the law and the fact it's completely subjective, but on the spectrum of reasonable to unreasonable subjective enforcement I'd say this skews more towards the reasonable end.

I'm really curious if folks with more "modest" mods get violations. I.e. M3 with MPE, Akra cat-back etc.

There is a Petition going around, please sign the Petition to let your law maker know.

Here one of them:

He wasn't ticketed for the exhaust... it was a ticket for that ridiculously hideous wing

Wow that is horrendous. Asking for it IMO.

I don't like the law because the 2019 change, drastic or not, draws more attention to any car with an aftermarket exhaust and therefore increases the likelihood of any of us being pulled over and hassled for mods.

Regardless of the long-standing dB limit, I felt that us in BMWs could fly somewhat under the radar and run whatever set-up we pleased as long as we weren't obnoxious about it. Now that there's more attention being drawn to exhaust it's a bit more nerve-racking.

I don't live in CA, but I'm not bothered by this type of law. There is some moron that lives down my street with a jacked up truck with a loud exhaust that often wakes me up at 4am when he drives by.

People shouldn't have their quality of life impacted just because someone thinks having a loud exhaust makes them seem cool.

Doubt it. Akra is near silent with the valves closed and I have the full Evo system.

Eh? The Akra exhaust has a valve system. I use a valve controller to open/close depending on whether I want it to be loud.

Mine did not. Never hear of one with it. Not on akra's web site either.

There is a bail amount as seen on osaka.isf's ticket and then there is a fine. Two completely different things. One can typically pay the bail amount and not see the judge. Which in that case the bail becomes the fine. Or you can pay the bail amount, roll the dice and see the judge. You might pay less. You might pay more. You might even pay the maximum, $1000.

That said, ever see the road side signs for littering? Usually it states something to the affect of "No littering. Maximum fine $1000." Toss out a burger wrapper you might get fined $50. Toss out a bag of burger wrapper you might get fined $500. The goal is make the top end of the fine large enough that it is a deterrent and changes people's behavior. Some are incorrigible. Some are idiots.

Some people deserve every penny of a 1000$ fine. Extreme loud and just stupid sounding exhaust should get the full 1000.00 fine.

I spent a week downtown LA over this summer. Every night some jerk with a gunfire tune and open exhaust made laps around the hotel. Boom Boom Boom. Every dang night. I was 12 floors up.

This burble fad needs to die down. Its much more satisfying to get your car to burble without a tune doing it for you.

I'm just waiting for the sign:

"Click it or Ticket, Maximum fine: Death"

Got hit with a 27151(a) for exhaust today . Officer told me to go to the state referee for exhaust and also got me for no front plate. He claimed i was speeding 70+ from a metered onramp onto dead stop 4pm traffic but said he wasn't going to write me for speeding lol. I barely hit 30 on my dash cam but whatever still have to deal with this exhaust ticket not sure if ref is required or just a payment is needed , nonetheless another law that needs reworking.

I'd just be careful around CHP, same as always.
So you think it is perfectly fine to impose your noise and your pollution on the rest of us?

We are all (or mostly all) enthusiasts on this website. But being enthusiasts doesn't mean that we can violate reasonable noise standards and throw pollution into the air. Take a look at old pictures of cities from the 50s before cats were required.

I respect your opinion, but you may be on the wrong forum to be giving someone a hard time for running catless. I'm not going to justify polluting the air because there's no reason that I should even try to.

Noise-wise, I don't drive like an obnoxious 17-year-old so that's a non-issue. Happened to be high in the rev range at the moment I was describing. Never said I was entitled to anything.

Anyway, let's not turn this into an oddly passive-aggressive discussion about environmental consciousness, yeah?
