What I know is you have to remove the whole unit you see on the photo.. from the CID screen to the armrest. Then you can get it out of the car and unscrew the shifter from the back side.
yep it's crazy every other BMW it's just like unclip the cover around it... |

I just removed the whole unit once for another job, so I didn't check how this cover is mounted.. but from what I see on your last picture, looks like the cover piece is plastic welded. So you would have to grind them welds off from the bottom.

Ah ok, for this install you definitely have to remove the whole center stack.. I also have these Buttons installed.
It's been some time. You have to remove speaker cover, display, cup holder, nfc pad, back seat, center console trim in the back, center armrest storage compartment, center arm rest itself. |
