We show you the 8 Series Concept seen at Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este
Once again BMW did not disappoint at Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este. BMW introduced us to the new 8 Series Coupe Concept. We were first shown the concept at Villa d'Este on Friday and Saturday... but on Sunday all the classic cars find their way over to Villa Erba - just down the street. BMW told us to expect to see the 8 Series Coupe sometime in 2018 - as a production car. We were unaware that Saturday that some 700 kms to our North... BMW was also showing the new M8(in camo) to the world at the 24hours of Nurburgring! How cool is THAT!
Here are some pictures of the grand rotunda room on Villa Erba. BMW brought out all their great bog coupes from their history. The 850csi and M8 were huge hits for the BMW fans in attendance. Have a look for yourself...

The 8 Series Coupe...
The more I looked at the new 8er... the more features and design elements I saw in the car's shape/form. While you can definitely see some i8 in it... I also saw a lot of Ferrari and Aston Martin too. I think the new 8er will be a sales hit. But I am interested to hear what you Bimmerpost members think of it. I know I wouldn't kick one out of my garage!

That dark blue original 8 series is simply stunning. The design has really stood the test of time. It has aged so well.

Thank you.
This design is perfect. It's such a shame that bmw is watering down the grill for production. It works perfectly and will sell. The bland grill is too pedestrian and generic ie. Toyota. Be bold bmw and you will be rewarded. Keep going down the path of generic and you will get bitten.

I don't know. I like it... I don't get the hate. It's huge and weighs and lot and has quite a boring engine (my opinion) but it looks great and will be an icon in the BMW line up.
And also it's a concept and we all know it'll differ quite a bit from the production model. |

Looks good, in person I'm sure is wear the awe is.. just curious.. are the back seats functional or just decoration like the old 6 series. That roof line is real low.. I guess someone you don't like might do well.

I thought they never made the M8? Is that a concept? Or aftermarket?

Bane grills in the front, Nissan G35/G37 side rear quarters elongated, side shot Honda Accord coupe profile, rear shot looks like a Porsche profile, Lamborghini Aventador ish air intakes, Aston Martin front quarters profile and a hint of Lincoln Continental also...
I'm kidding. I'd drive this puppy any day. Great job!

Thanks for the great photos, Dack. The more I look at it the more it looks like the current Jag F-type, a design now 2 years old, but probably created 4-5 years ago.

Dack, great photos of the current and past 8 series. The latest rendition has gorgeous curves and a beautiful interior to boot. When the new M8 debuts, it will definitely be time for me to exchange it for my Mercedes CL. Once again, BMW has come up with another brilliant design. Thanks again!

IMHO the grill is hideous. Reminds of the hideous grills on the new Lexus that take up the whole front. Not saying go back to the current style but it needs some refinement. Other than that I like the lines.

From a distance, I would concur that the silhouette between the two cars are remarkably similar. However, up close, the details, lines and curves of the new 8 series are by far sexier. Overall, its body panel work seems to be more fluid and dramatic in contrast to the Jag F-type. I think I'd better stop here or else my wife, out of sheer jealousy, may veto the thought of purchasing the new 8.

Grin
Looking at the old M8 I can't stop thinking that car is grinning at me, saying: "As much as you want..."
Does anyone knows what the performances 0-60 (100km/h) and top speed would have been? BTW, marketing wise they wanted to land a coup, but bringing the old M8 kind of drew my attention away from the new car... |
