This may be BMW's true 911 fighter

Would be nice, but I doubt the new CEO will allow it. He's really concerned mainly with profits and EV's, not to mention he's going to be cutting "unnecessary/unsuccessful" vehicles from the lineup, there's already rumors that many coupes/verts will be on the chopping block, including the possibility of the 8er not having a successor (even though the 8er in a sense really is a 6er replacement).

While it would be cool to have a 911 fighter, I don't know whether BMW would be able to succeed. The 911 (and Porsche in general) is a hard fight, its going to require a serious platform and lighter weight design (remember a 911 can weigh less than a 2-series), some serious engineering expenses, and it would have to go against BMW's current model of catering to their clients more than their sporting intentions/desires, among other things.

Maybe this is what the standalone M product should be, at least a competitor to Mercedes' AMG GT and Audi's R8, but again, I don't think the CEO will go for it, even though the M division has discussed numerous times their desire to build a standalone product, but likely in the end, at least based off rumors that is, we'll end up with an SUV of some sort (X8??) or another engineering marvel but failure like the i8

6 series was not killed off because it was so successful.

"Would be a nice idea" means "not going to happen"...

Thanks for sharing this,I wasn't aware. Just what we don't need, another giant buck toothed SUV.
