I've owned M cars for the last 15 years now and my current one is a 2014 M6 Comp pack.
Now when I see Ford doing a supercharger instead of a turbo, keeping it RWD, and finally adding a proper DCT, I can't help but think that's all that I can ask for.
I would get the GT500 over the M8C no question about it.
BMW M is now going AWD and has even ditched the double clutch for an automatic. Seems like they are turning into a Merc now.
Not sure I like the way BMW is heading with the M cars.

Again, no one is cross shopping these vehicles anyways, they are in two different worlds, purposes, price brackets, etc. But, people can likely deal with the interior and other quality aspects if the shelby is their second vehicle. You guys are putting too much emphasis on the GT350/500 being your only vehicle, most owners likely have a garage with other cars.
Agreed but cars are depreciating lack of assets so I will never own more than one (and one for the wife) at any given time. My true vice is horology and just like the M850i I seek out the passion for the purchase but thankfully 80% of the time it results in an appreciating asset.

So the GT500 won that 1/4 mile then?

M8 launches ahead
M8 isn't passed
M8 crosses 1/4 mile first

Sure if this was a mile, a half mile the GT500 walls it.

I will repeat my statement the GT500 comes back but as never in that 1/4 mile unless final trap speed is the only measure?
Ignoring the M8's best run huh . Maybe because it did 10.9@127 while the 500 did 10.55 @134 . Way to cherry pick lol

I can go back and check but pretty sure it's about 4 posts including this one regarding the horology vice. However, for a car being a lack of a depreciating asset likely several more given the obvious. That said all in on total posts including either sentiment they are just a small percentage.

This is why BMW moves to MXDrive, traction wins that pull.

Lap time comparisons would be interesting in the future but honestly I can only see BMW M8 being quicker.
All I saw was the GT500 was a ton faster except on the launch. The M8 and M8C have very little chance to beat the new GT500 on track. There is no shame in it, it's just a much more focused car. They shouldn't even be compared really.

Nothing short of an M8 CSL with nearly 700hp is going to tame that pony.

IMHO the biggest compromise with the 8 series is that they're using the 8er trio to go against the S coupe/cabrio, SL, GT, GT4dr and CLS with just one model making it a jack of all trades rather than the king of one. Fantastic car nevertheless, but that explains the lack of focus as someone mentioned above.

Watch what you wish for. The race car is amazing and the CS or CSL seems to be in the works. Probably to go up against the GT black series coupe.

PS it will be $200k or twice the stang though

Until BMW learns how to boost large displacement V8s and strays away from their tried and true I6....They will never beat the best domestic muscle cars in drag racing. And for the record driving an AWD small block V8 with twin turbos is easy! Set the software to launch mode, stab, and steer. The computer takes it from there!
Since when did KB start to use a "roots style supercharger?" They use Twin Screw technology which is not a roots style such as an Eaton which is the kind that Ford is using on the GT500.

Ford is using a 5.2L V8 engine in the GT500 and BMW is using their 4.4L V8 in the M8. Neither are "large displacement" engines. Heck, even the Hellcat is "only" using a 6.2L engine which is somewhat large by today's standards as compared to others.

Was there any doubt that a 760hp RWD car will be faster 617hp AWD?
BMW's AWD is the only thing that made things somewhat equal in the quarter but after that the RWD will have it.

Personally I didn't get the M8 to drag race but have a wicked fast, yet comfortable and safe ride.

Just came back from a Cali trip where they stuck us into a 2020 Ford GT since they oversold their rentals. Obviously different cars but that thing was crap.
Actually there is a lot of tech in the car but the driving experience was lackluster, from the 10 speed down to the seats. This thing was downright painful on longer rides...

Assuming it had some driving assistant packages as most $30K cars these days seem to include at least blind spot detection. Was the 2020 SYNC system decent or getting on par with iDrive? Last Ford rental car I had in early 2019 was a Edge with Titanium package. Definitely improvement in interior but the SYNC system left a lot to be desired.

I used primarily Apple CarPlay but the Sync3's home page was a copy of iDrive.
Not as polished and not as intuitive but then I didn't use it much.
I was more referring to the different drive modes/digital dash, etc.

Thanks saw the digital dash in the GT500 pre-release marketing, etc. but didn't know if it was exclusive to it and had no clue it was part of the base models (or possibly an option).

I am not sure if you can directly compare these cars. In the BMW world, GT500 would be an M4 on steroids. M8 is for speed, comfort, and style, not pure speed.

Now, with some easy mods (firmware) M8 will be able to beat GT500, but then you can tune up GT500 as well etc...
