My vettes were a lot better on fuel than my M3.I could get 35 mpg at a 75-80 mph cruise and high teens around town in normal driving.

it's amazing how fuel economy the vetts are considering how much power it has and all it's performance capability. M3 on the other hand has terrible gas mileage.

i drove a C5 Z06 and loved it, just awsome car - excpet the interior is just crap (which has always been a chevy problem until now. the new C6 with leather interior is pretty nice). i wouldnt mind having a C6.. just a beast..

Anyone here ever owned a Corvette before? What was your experience with it? Just curious, I think I might buy a C4 vert with an LT1, or older C5 vert as a present after I pass the CPA exam and get the hefty pay increase that comes with getting those 3 letters after your name.
Hey Phil, I don't own one but a good friend of mine does (C5)...an AMAZING rocket. He's been taking it to the track this year and has modified it quite a bit.

Here's a great vid from one of his track days...enjoy

Of all the vettes ever made, this has got to be the very very best. It is so absolutely beautiful. If your dad wants to sell.....

I've owned quite a few Corvettes in my life.

1965 Coupe
1969 Coupe - 427 (what a monster!)
1985 Coupe
1987 Vert
1997 Coupe
2006 Z06

All in all the cars were REALLY reliable. I only had a couple issues with the '87 vert when I first got it and then it was great. No issues at all with either the '97 or the '06.

The C6 Z06 was a fantastic car. It was so light (3150lbs) and dynoed at 440 rwhp with a Callaway Air Intake and Corsa Exhaust. I averaged 27mpg going to Corvettes @ Carlisle last year. I'm not sure what you're referring to O'Cha. Did you ever own a Corvette? It is a pretty amazing car for the money. Sadly, I had to sell it because of the family.

If you're going to get an older car, definitely go for the C5 over the C4. The C5 is so much more user friendly. The interior is WAY better. You're not sitting down inside a box like the C4 (or a first gen Viper). The handling of the C5 is much more progressive. The car is just put together better also (higher build quality). If you go for the vert, you'll be locked into a 1998 or newer. Parts are relatively cheap and you can extract some easy HP for little money. Blackwing intake will give you 22hp because the stock intake breaths through two quarter size (yes, the coin) holes. A short shifter is recommended if you get a manual, it makes the drive so much better. Also, I'd look into a car that has the Active Handling. Well worth it if you want to drive the car a lot in rain and such.

For the money, these cars are definitely worth a look. The C5s are really becoming affordable. In the mid $20K you can get a 1999 - 2001 vert.
