BMW M850i Interior is a 2019 Wards 10 Best Interiors
BIMMERPOST NEWS BMW M850i Interior is a 2019 Wards 10 Best Interiors" The BMW 8 Series has been named a 2019 Wards 10 Best Interiors Wards has this to say about the M850i interior: Eight Wards editors based in Southfield, MI, selected the best interiors from a list of 32 nominated vehicles with all-new or significantly improved cabins available in the U.S. Test drives in Metro Detroit were conducted in February and March, and judges scored each vehicle on design aesthetic, comfort, ergonomics, materials, fit-and-finish and the user-friendliness of displays and controls. There is no price cap for 10 Best Interiors. This year’s honorees in alphabetical order (price listed as tested): Bentley Continental GT ($276,730) BMW M850i ($119,295) Genesis G70 ($44,895) Hyundai Santa Fe ($39,905) Jeep Gladiator ($51,245) Lincoln Nautilus ($67,630) Mercedes-Benz A220 ($51,935) Nissan Kicks ($23,330) Toyota RAV4 ($39,565) Volvo V60 ($54,690) Like the Continental GT, BMW’s new M850i sport coupe is filled with sumptuous leather-wrapped surfaces and authentic metallic trim that make it both warm and cool inside. The dominant color scheme in our test vehicle was tasteful saddle-brown Tartufo and black, with exceedingly supportive seats (and adjustable thigh cushions) accentuated by contrast black piping, thick bolsters and perforated fine-grain Merino leather stitched in artsy U-shaped elements that stack like vertebrae down the center of the seatback. Our judges loved the mirrored iDrive and volume knobs, as well as the crystalline gear shifter and distinctive textured aluminum on the center console. The M850i also got high marks for ergonomics, brilliant displays and lightning-fast voice recognition that lets the driver ask for or adjust climate, entertainment and navigation functions with natural speech. We also tested the BMW 330i sedan and X5 CUV, and they both scored highly with our judges. But the M850i takes the brand’s interiors to another level.

I give you materials, but what exactly inspires awe about the generic design of the interior? Doesn't hold a candle to the previous 6-series.

I have to strongly disagree with you, a few of my friends have had 6 series (GC and Coupe). I recently stepped into an M850i for the first time, the quality of materials far surpasses the 6. Feels at least 2 generations newer.

^That's exactly what the first commenter said. Material quality is great. Ergonomics is great.
But it's lacking the wow-factor...just doesn't look interesting enough. |

Personally,I don't want a distracting interior. I want , soft, sumptuous, high quality practically.
Piano black, scratch magnet. Pale merino, dirt magnet. Understated, high quality luxury rather than Fisher Price meets Vertu, does it for me. Oh, except the gash gear shifter.

The 8-Series interior is nice and well put together, but it is lacking in "wow" factor compared to the S-class Coupe, and even the previous gen 6-Series. Since they can't change the style, I'm hoping BMW changes a few items.
1) Add galvanized switches and buttons. The 7-Series and X7 have them. The 8-Series should, too (if it were up to me, this would apply to ALL of BMW's cars, at least as an option). 2) Replace the little climate control temp/fan screen with the color version that's in the X5 and X7 instead of the 1990's LCD looking version from the new 3-Series. Why they used that one in the first place is beyond me. 3) Replace the shiny black plastic center stack with something other than shiny black plastic. 4) While we're on the subject of trim, come out with more options to dress up the interior. The few choices currently available are drab and/or boring. 5) Add massaging seats. The competition has them. The 5, X5, 7, and X7 have them as options. Somehow the 8-Series that costs more than all of them doesn't offer them. |

More like "best" imitation of the interior of vehicles costing $40k less than it.
As others have said, material quality (aside from plastic buttons) is great but that's a given at this price point. The design didn't feel special enough in the examples I've spent time with.

I’ve sat in the 850 a few times and I was completely underwhelmed by the interior. Material quality is fine but not as special as the old 6 series and not as nice as the X5.

I like the new 8 series, but don't love it . It doesn't even deserve the 8 series name . It looks like a redesigned 6 series and it's STILL not on the S class coupe level which is YEARS older than the new 8 .
