The GC really isnt a fair comparo with over 200 inches in length and much more heft. Its probably the more comfortable car especially at speed in a straight line due to the longer wheel base and stock vs stock its a close battle with the GTS (performance numbers wise). I find the M8 Coupe to be a better comparo as its about 10 inches shorter than the GC and bit more fun to toss around but still it lacks the real "go kart" feel of the Porsche. And while the 911 iterations get bigger, Porsche still finds a way to make one feel very connected to the car. The steering even with EPS is great and the chassis dynamics of spring and damper mating are amazing. The car really endures the undulations and bumps to make a rapid driving experience more true and rewarding. I still love the M8 Coupe for its ferocious launches and dual tone exhaust but the GTS's flat 6 is no slouch in sound either. I definitely not give my GTS for my departed GC but the decision would be closer regarding the Coupe and the GTS. Id still take the P car though ...And finally I personally have really good roads and the Porsche can totally be a daily driver. In fact compared to the M8 Coupe; the GTS is the more tolerant car to bumps and road issues. The M8 can be rather taut. **I might have read too fast but what 911 do you have?

For my lifestyle and how I drive on the street vs the track, I would never think to daily drive my 911 GTS, which is still not in my garage. Holy fuck what a harsh ride.

I think the 24 m8 is harsher than the 22 GTS and 21 m8gc. GTS is stock tho.Vic55 has a similar config I think as well.

I have had now 2 GTS's and the first was a 991.2 and now the 992 with PDCC and while some will argue that PDCC is just a roll bar process Ill say other wise having had it on multiple Turbo S's too. But back to the comparo I have- same roads, same conditions, no track, reasonable quality; the GTS is much more compliant on the bumps and undulations. The compression and rebound are far more enduring with no bounce (stock v stock and lowered the the GTS is even better). Its just a more smooth bump suffering car. Porsche engineering with its damper and spring set up makes it as such. Its not faster stock vs stock but thats not the talk here. My M8 Coupe is a sled and when its at speed, the body roll and yaw while still very level is not at the same measure as the GTS. Of course its an apples and orange comparo since the GTS is almost 700 lbs lighter and my 992 has the Turbo suspension set vs the older GTS variants. I know every day if Im going after a bad road what car I want to be in. The m8 GC which I had too is a bit more relaxed on the bumps streetwise due to the longer wheelbase but not as nimble as the coupe. My thoughts as an owner of both cars now and a few prior... also as a G80Xdrive owner- that car is better than the M8 in regards to chassis dampening and suspension flex. Im on my 2nd there too.

The opinions on this thread really speak a great truth.
I've got some thoughts on the Panamera - it really is one of the most unreliable cars out there. I have a lot of relationships over at Porsche and the "problem child" of the line really is the Panamera (followed by the Taycan). Every PITA the service team bitches about is related to a Panny. It's weird because Porsche ranks exceptionally high in build quality and I just don't know where the F they went wrong with that thing. This is where the modular aspects of BMW allows them to build a better car than the much lower selling/production Panamera. The tradeoff is that it won't "drive like a Porsche". Not sure what you're towing with your truck but I also have a Porsche Cayenne that I tow my 911's with (my 911 turbo weighed 3700lbs and my GT3RS weighs 3100. The Featherlite weighs 1200lbs). I believe it can tow up to 7700lbs so depending on what you're towing with your truck, if you're considering a Cayenne Turbo GT, maybe get rid of the truck, keep the 911, and get the Cayenne instead. The discussion here is not if a 911 is a better car than the 8. Objectively, BMW has nothing in the stable that could even run in the same league as a 911 but the reality is that they run different races. With 3 kids, a 911 simply isn't suitable for the job. The 8 series (even in M guise) is a great car but it will never be a 911; which is exactly what you need right now. I will also make a point that the 8 series should not be compared to a GT3. The M8GC is a fantastic street car and is designed to cross continents in supreme comfort and high speeds, a GT3 is a homologated race car. My GT3RS would rattle the fillings out of teeth. Simply highway speeds at 75mph, the engine is spinning at nearly 4k rpm. There's ZERO torque compared to the 8. To my point earlier about running different races, a GT3 belongs on the track, the 8 Series (even in M guise) is a street car irrespective of it's horsepower. Proper tools for the proper task. Sell the 911 and come back to it later. You're not going wrong with an 8 series in any guise. Last edited by KONG991TT; 02-27-2024 at 06:23 PM.. |

I didn't have a single issue with my Panamera's and never heard any complaints about them at the dealerships.
Anecdotal but a quick look at numbers tells me the Porsche is in the range of other luxury full size German sedans which fair poorly as a segment. That doesn't surprise me; combine the highest tech load with often being the first car in the lineup to get the new tech is going to bring your numbers down. |

Every time I was there (which was at least 15 times a season), there were always Panny's with long term, persistent, or even terminal issues there. I'm glad yours has been reliable because having seen first-hand a much larger sample size, I'm told that they are the least reliable amongst the range. Now to be fair, the Service department is where all cars with problems go so I guess it's slightly out of context to complain about there being "sick people everywhere" while standing in a hospital. |

So no complaints other than the annoying "night vision" error message that always pops up when I start the car. And yep: it is by far the most beautiful Bimmer these days. |
