Abundance of pre-owned M8's with low miles for sale

As I continue my search waiting for the pre-owned M8's to crack the $100k price break, I am noticing a lot of pre-owned M8's have virtually no miles on them. On Cars.com, they are listed as used. I test drove one a few weeks ago and found them along with the M850's to be great automobiles that have amazing performance and exhilarating to drive. It did not strike me to be a car that one would get bored with. It does seem odd that many are for sale with low low miles. Am I missing something?

I think it makes sense: They've been out only a year and some change...Likely 2nd or 3rd vehicles. In a pandemic.

^this^

the day I got my 2019 m850i, the new 2020 m8 were arriving on the lot. they had a red m8 convertible that I almost got instead of my blue m850i that came off the same truck, the same day in 2019.

for most, the m8 is a track car or a 2nd car or a date night car. and the pandemic shut down a lot.

If you really want a sub-100k m8 competition = get the 2020 m8c GRAN COUPE.
those are likely to be under 100 soon.

there is one for $117k, give it a year and it will be under 100k easily.

There are also many which are Dealer Demonstrator / Press Cars / Longterm loan cars, and those are usually put up for sale after 12 months of sale.

In the UK I spent months checking for M850is, and there were none. Come 1st November there were 9, all in near identical spec and with vaguely similar miles. They were dealer cars, BMW management cars, and press/media cars.

Can't speak for all of them, but I know for me personally, it's a lot of money for just meh.

I think the initial allure of the car being new/shiny/fast is appealing, but a little time into having the car, one begins to realize other cars offer a lot more for similar money.

On top of that, a car this "exclusive" should not share the same layout as a 30k 2-series. An M5 feels more special to me in this regard.

I personally know a lot of my neighbors buying The new Porsche 911 (992) and trading in the bmw with less than 10k miles.

The 911's are great cars. I don't see how a person that wants a 911 would purchase an M8. The two cars offer a significant different driving experience. Speaking from personal experience, if you are looking at 911's, nothing you drive in that price range will give you that type of ride or driving experience. I'm just getting older with back issues. It's time for a Grand Touring type of ride for me. If the Panamera was a convertible, I would be interested.
There is something about a Porsche that is special! I'm sure going to miss the depreciation value a 911 has!

You are 100% like me. I am the same way. For me, when I was looking there was only 2 choices. The Mercedes s class amg convertible and the m850.

Now there are more v8 convertible options, but I think MB removed the s class.
