Android Auto and Waze

Is there a way to get waze on android auto? It only had Google maps as one of the icons?

It looks like Waze does not fully support Android Auto and only limited support via a USB connection vs the wireless capability of iDrive 7 with the 07/2020 release: https://support.google.com/waze/answer/7441088?hl=en.

Waze works on Android Auto in my M850, although I don't use it very often as I prefer the Satelite imagery on Google Maps.

Now that I think about it that makes sense, i.e., if Waze supports Android Auto (perhaps still limited vs the full app as per the Google article) it should work wirelessly as well. That was my experience with Car Play in my wife's 2017 X5 with iDrive 6. BMW was one of the first manufactures to support wireless Car Play although the rest of the world was still USB dependent.
