Old 8 Series v New 8 Series

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I am seriously thinking of pulling the trigger on a low mileage fully loaded 2020 840 Gran Coupe. Gorgeous in Dravit with Ivory full merino…

I know that a ‘refreshed’ 8 Series has been launched - are there any significant differences other than the illuminated grill?

Last minute jitters are making me wonder if I should wait until the ‘new’ model comes into the ‘nearly new’ market…..the one I am smitten on has lost £36k in value in just under two years, happy for someone else to take that pain!

That and a two inch larger center screen. It's easily one of the most insignificant refreshes BMW has ever done. Go for it!

Read details of 2023 changes here. Honestly, a tiny LCI refresh.

Indeed. Quite the unambitious upgrade. Every expense was spared to make sure they didn't upgrade too much.

I ripped out my oem screen and cemented in a new 72 inch oled Samsung TV. Let see BMW top that!
I tried welding it at first but everything went all gooey.

Ok ya caught me Snareman. I actually epoxied it to my windshield on the outside. I coated the back in silicone seal for winter use now.
Then I mounted a camera on the front of the hood with a B&W monitor screwed to the heads up display. I'm covered Brother.

I have seen people do the outside the window TV thing so that makes sense. As long as it's weather coated you should be okay. The rice mobiles usually just do it with regular caulking so you are a step up with the silicone, befitting of an 8 series. The people with the fancy TVs can do picture in picture to see out the front but I understand if you have to go low budget

I was gonna use Saran Wrap but costco was closed.
I did have to run a 4 inch hole saw thru the windshield to get the remote to work.
I had a buddy that actually used Saran Wrap as a condom when he was teen. You know...there she was and no Johnson Tarp. So he improvised.

The wired remotes are more reliable and no worrying about batteries dying. Also you can run the tv's power cable to the mirror tap if you don't want to just connect it to the positive and negative terminals on the car's battery. It gets a little unsightly having wires running under the side of the hood.

You can do a lot of customizing with a 4 inch hole saw.
It's that scotch tape for insulation...saaa-weet.
What I did was buy 6 farm tractor batteries and plopped them in the back seat. Then I tied all the terminals together with barbed wire and hose clamps. They were all are on sale at TSC.
Then what you do it run those glove box type jumper cables over the roof with duct tape. Apply foil to the dash and voila. A heated dash and such. No more crayon smell or any smells other than boiling plastic which is nice really.

I don't worry about fire. I have those glass ball fire extinguishers hanging from the roof liner.

Well my 840 That I am collecting on Wednesday (did I mention that?) is pre-facelift…you are all making it so complicated all I shall be doing is sellotaping a magnifying glass over the central display.

Voila. Everyone will think it is the updated model.
