There were a bunch here in AZ as well but the big one for my world was "HB 2729 personal data; processing; security standards". Basically, a mini AZ version of Europe's GDPR. I knew it was coming as CA enacted one in 2019 and a lot of other states will in the upcoming decade. So I damn well made sure I fully understood it and partnered with one of our GC to create a position paper on where it impacts us, a plan to address as well as thankfully we get a mighty big pass as there is an exclusion of scope for data regulated by HIPAA.

The biggie though impacting my job directly was the Federal CMS Interoperability and Patient Access final rule (CMS-9115-F) which has compliance mandates we are now driving to meet by January 2021 as well as a follow-up for January 2022. I'm part of a SWAT team defining our pathway and the the technology we'll utilize to delivery.

3: get your license and registration out and have them ready for the officers. Don't throw them at them, just wait till they ask for the documents.
Don't do this, wait for the officer to ask for them. Moving around in the car after being pulled over is not a good idea. Just put your hands on the steering wheel and wait.

Keep your hands in plain sight at all times. Hands above the steering wheel on the wheel.

Always good advice and I did so the last time I got stopped in the outgoing Lexus a few years back coming home from the shooting range. Here in AZ you can have a gun in the car within a holster as long as it is in plain sight. So my Sig P226 was laying on the passenger seat in its holster. My only prep was to roll down the drivers window (one quick button push) and wait for the officer to approach with both my hands on the wheel.

When the officer approached I called out that I had a handgun in the holster on the passenger seat as I was on my way home from the shooting range. The officer thanked me for the call out and as he stood there he asked me to put in in the back seat and watched me do so. Then it was license, registration, etc. and him informing me that I did not come to a full stop at the stop sign as I entered the road he stopped me on.

After running my info and it all coming up clean the officer asked me about the shooting range and gun type. After my answers he asked why I chose .40 caliber over 9mm for the P226 and we ended up having a conversation on that. End of the day he just gave me a verbal warning on the "California stop" and I was on my way.

Being polite goes a long way and forth right about any weapons. And nice choice on the sig, they make some of the nicest guns on the market.
I personally have a .45 glock because I wanted daily reliability and stopping power. At my size, if I can't stop them with my bare hands, a 9mm isn't going to help. But I had an EMT friend that was told by a doctor, he's never seen anyone walk away from .45 wound in 40 years. But he's seen lots of guys get back to work with a 9mm in them.

Now with the new gun laws on July, it's almost a crime to own a gun. Virginia put in red flag rules, limits to 1 per month, and full background checks. Just to name a few 2020 changes.

To continue the DUI theme, as an extra slap for those of us with Concealed permits in Virginia; a DWI will often remove the permit, however a civil "refusal" citation isn't a violation.

I'd be real careful here......there is no proof this guy has ever been an attorney (let alone a good one or one who should be giving advice on a forum).

His writing, spelling, and word usage is high-school grade.......it's glaring in his posts.

Radar:

So new topic, Speeding and Radar detector and lidar.

So everyone knows speeding is illegal, but did you know you can go to jail in Virginia for high speeds? This would lead one to believe that you should get a radar detector; however they are illegal in DC & VA. I'll focus on Virginia, but in DC the use of red light, speed cameras, cops and general foot traffic and pedestrian can make it difficult to speed anyhow. it's rare to see a Police Officer issued anything in the 30+ mph range, even 20+ is not as common as in other states.

In Virginia, anything over 20 mph is considered "Reckless Driving" and it's punishable by up to 1 year in jail, a $2500 fine, AND 6 months without a license In ADDITION to 6 out 12 points on your license, meaning you could get a DMV loss with two of them.

However, a radar ticket is a maximum fine of $250; and usually around $30. so it's the "safer" way to go but it's still illegal and will almost always get you pulled over irregardless of speed.
