My dad drove Studebakers exclusively until 1963 when they ceased production. In my time we had a 1947 and a 1955. Both were Commanders.

I partook of everything on the list with the exception of Butch Wax (I was a Brylcreem guy.. "a little dab will do you"); Blackjack Gum (yuck); and Home Economics (guys didn't take Home Ec!!!).

Mine wasn't the wisest of choices..........

Group of us, robably 15 or 16 at the time. We knew someone who knew someone that purchased it for us.

One time was enough, beer became the drink of choice after that.

My family doesn’t drink and some of my dad’s coworkers gave him a bottle of Ripple as a joke one time. I remember it had a screw on top. Somehow even without Google to look it up we knew it was cheap stuff. I remember hearing someone say it’s what winos drank. It stayed in the back of our refrigerator for quite a few years. I remember wanting to try it, but I was afraid of what it would taste like. Eventually it got poured down the drain and I don’t think anyone ever actually tasted it.

I learned that Bacardi 151 was different than Ripple the hard way. My dad had a beautiful '61 Buick Electra 225. After trying that rum for the first time when I was 15 years old, I got sick all over the back seat of my dad's car. I've never worked so hard cleaning up a car so my dad wouldn't find out what had happened. I even sprinkled a bit of Brut after shave on the spot for good measure. My dad was so cool. He never commented on it but I'm sure he knew.

Ripple was nasty stuff. We liked Red Mountain better. Come to think if it, Red Mountain was nasty too!

A soldier I was stationed with in Korea about drank himself to death on Bacardi 151. Polished off a bottle of it. Ended up in the hospital with alcohol poisoning. That must have been one hell of a hangover.

...when you bought a TV that looked like this as an adult. Note: It doesn't count if you had one in your house when you were a kid.

That's some potent stuff, for sure. Gotta be careful and drink in moderation.

I think Ripple is right up there with Thunderbird.

I must admit I never bought my own console TV. Do I have to get off the lawn now?

Ooh, I had forgotten about Thunderbird. Never experienced it, of course, but I remember it being compared to Ripple.

Another great one was Silver Satin. Right up there with Ripple and Thunderbird. If you're going to drink it do it straight, warm, and out of a paper bag.

Nastiest stuff I ever drank as a teen was something called Screwdriver. I think it was cheap vodka with Tang powder in it. Yuck.

I think a Screwdriver is supposed to be made with actual orange juice isn’t it?

Who substitutes Tang for orange juice? I guess you have to make due with what you have.
