M850i is not the most comfortable car ...
" M ' means ...more uncomfortable. 🤪.
As someone just posted , any M car is more hard core than its sub . No rubber bushings on M8 for better " handling ". M850i sounds more a V8 than the M8 because the M8 cylinder head flow and manifolds are a different design.
I'd buy an M8 and put a cushion under my but on BUMpy roads . 😮

Looks like a 1 or 2 year old 850i with less then 20k miles is about $35-40k lower than the MSRP. Looking it appears I can get a 2020-2021 850i convertible for in the $65-80K fully loaded. Now the search is on. Interesting on looking at the CARFAX reports how they changed hands and services. Looks like lots on lease return. I am not sure if it was a factor of too expensive for folks and need to get out or they just wanted to get out for other reasons.
Maybe you can assume a low mileage lease? That way you aren't stuck with it when the lease expires and have a choice to keep or not.

Gotta say my M550 had the best seats, ever. That goes a long way, but the ride was also very nice. During my M5 days I had a friend get the LCI M550. I drove it, but thought it was a little sloppy after spending about 25,000 miles in the M5.....duh. I didn't feel that way going into the M850. To me, it handles better than the M550, but some of that is due to swapping out the skinny OEM wheels for a fatter setup. The ride seems nicer- it's just overall a better car. And it sits lower. I love hammering it in sport+ on a 2 lane twisty.

I think most people say the Alpina is actually the softest ride 8 series-wise....

I wont even compare the M8 to my 992 GTS or R8... its not as forgiving. The settling of the M8 is still more harsh. With that being said, with the better roads where I live - the M8 is still proper and liveable.

I cant compare to an M850i with tangible relatable value as Ive only driven the M850i in piecemeal and not on the same roads.
Side question, so in comparison the 992 GTS is significantly harsher? I'm on allocation lists for an S and a GTS and wasn't sure how rough the GTS was in comparison. Planning on coming to PECLA (and Thermal) in the spring for some test drives.

No, to the contrary- the GTS soaks up the bumps and undulations at a much better level. Porsche engineering at its finest IMHO with the dampers and springs working in unison.

I have PDCC as well on the GTS which while it makes the car stiffer it also creates a better "settling" event with the car when being pushed with speed over less than optimal roads.

The GTS has the Turbo suspension (992's) with the rear helper/tender spring set up.

I just personally feel the M8 dampers are too taut because I feel the thuds (not the ones I want) on slower speed road issues while the car can overflex at higher speeds too. Again, its not a huge deal because my roads are great but the Porsche and my R8 easily excel over the M8 road quality and feel. Obviously subjective but since I own the cars and drive them on the same roads, thats factual to me.

Thanks. Hopefully they'll let me drive them both while I'm there. Although realistically which one I get depends on which I can get an allocation for. I'm new to P world, but some say that the GTS comes out a year after the regular models? Similar to the M's being delayed a year. So I'd take a 992.2 S allocation now (whenever now is) over a GTS a year later.

I have driven both actually, Like Vic said the GTS is very compliant and a great daily. GTS is Grand Touring Sport and the S is Sport. You will find the GTS is a more all a rounder and is you have the PDCC you can stiffen it up a bit more for the thrill drive. Two of my car friends have the S and wish they got the GTS after we have had a few amongst us group members.

I'll be honest if you haven't considered looking at the 718 Chassis you might wanna take a look, unless you need the larger car. This won't be liked by many but the newer 911's to me are not on par with my expectations of P cars, however the 718 with the Flat 4.0 is one of the best P cars I have ever driven and owned. You get so much more for less.

I drove a 718 at PECATL. I agree on their value. It was nice and sporty although a bit small for me. The 911 is already a foot shorter than the 8 so it should be enough of a downsizing. I'd like at least the notion of a back seat to put my work bag. And... the 911 is a 911! . Also, the 992.2 is coming so I'm looking forward to whatever new stuff is coming with that like the all digital dash. Maybe they'll let you get rid of that big tach that I'd never use. I know its a Porsche thing, but I'd never use it and just assume put something more useful in that real estate if they aren't going to ever put a HUD in the 911.

If you are trying to cut costs a little, nor sure, but you could simply get the m850 and put kw v3 in. You'll have great handling characteristics and power.

Mine will be going in soon. The handing got better indeed with wider tires and wheels on all 4 corners.
