Either way, this issue here is the M850i. There is no "regular" 8 Series car, so this just looks like it has a different body kit from the 850. In my opinion, it needs a bit more "Tokyo drift" and a bit less S Class refinement.
I think it needs less boy racer look, but unfortunately that's the current bmw design language (this, M850i, Z4 M40i). The last gen M6 coupe/GC/convertible looked so much prettier and more elegant. Those were definitely the nicest looking bmws in the last decade, after the E46/E39 generation.

Given a choice, there is no doubt I would buy the M6 coupe. Look below for side view compare. (Not to scale but close)
Never really liked the 6/M6 coupe's design, something off with the side profile, The convertible and gran coupe looked really good though. I think the new 8 coupe looks really good, its got a muscular elegance to it, and the spy shots of the gran coupe look real good, excited to drive that one.

You should sharpen your eye

As per the recent design signature, M-Performance models have the center opening below the front bumper wider at the top and narrower at the bottom whereas the true ///M models have this opening narrower at the top and wider at the bottom.

Maybe IRL it will look substantially different from a m850i but in pics it does not. The m8gc was my planned upgrade from my m6gc, but this design language is not impressing me. The concept looked amazing, this is meh at best.

is that seriously the best whine (complaint) you can come up with ?

How's that for an EASY button? Wheels are a personal preference and can be changed like underwear.

Wheels are like BASF.

Wheels do not make the (car) products that you buy. Wheels make a lot of the (car) products you buy, better.

Well it's not a deal breaker but I don't like it and that's all I said, why should I not express that? Others complain about exterior color options, which could also be solved with a wrap or whatever. Or some complain about mirrors, seats, exhaust tips etc. There are aftermarket solutions for that as well. But not all people want that, so what?

But my comment was mainly related on the general wheel design lately. I used to like the BMW wheel designs, but lately they are less and less pleasing to me.

Absolutely!!!

This is how it should look, much cleaner design without all those parts here and there.
The clean look suits this car more, as the concept was (at least for the front)

M8 GC will cost around the M8 convertible. At least that was how the M6 GC and vert was priced out.

This one is just kind of "that's cool".

I'm sure the performance, ride, handling, and build quality are all amazing, but it kind of just looks "bland".

There's nothing that stands out to me as striking or inspiring.

Very similar to every other modern Lexus, Mercedes, Audi, etc..

I just don't feel like this is an aspirational car.

I just don't feel emotional about it...

(My opinion only...rant over)
Ditto, exactly how I feel. This is what disappoints me the most. I was so excited when the F13 came out in 2012 that I got the second production number in Orange County. I replaced that one with 2015 competition edition F13. I am not pounding on my dealership door to get a production number on this one.

I would say YES, at a lower price point. The MB is north of $160K.
