I do my own servicing so not bad but can certainly be expensive if you buy a car with needs.

You used to be able to get a decent one with a manual for like $60k, now they're like $120k+

I won’t lie part of me wants to sell the z06 and pick up a zr1 for that reason. But going to hold off the power is enough on the z06.

It’s a good option.

^ 2650 maggie, mild cam and a few other supporting mods on a Z06 will bring power levels above stock ZR1 (though of course there is much more to the car other than just power.)

Still, huge gains to be had over the stock LT4 blower, I tune a bunch of them.

This isn't relevant to your specific criteria, but I had the same quest to get my last ICE earlier this year. I ended up on a CPO V12 M760i, and it's been such a treat to own it these last 8 months. We don't have the same needs from our cars, but be sure to get something you will enjoy every, single, time, you drive it.

Oh yeah I’m more looking at the total car. I really don’t need more power. but to have the best and last more powerful FE MANUAL Vette - that’s a keeper.

I bought the Z06 and plan to hold forever. First kid is on the way in a few weeks and a part of me (wife and I keeping it as a surprise) hoping for a son to be sharing quite a few fun cars with.

My niece loves driving my M4 and M3 convertible, and absolutely loves track days in my E93, so you may not need a son to enjoy your fun cars, Mike.

Good and fair point .

It might be that I’m not ready for social media and the need to buy a shotgun….. But I do hope the kid loves cars. I plan to have quite a few fun ones for them to inherit.

The E85/86 do not have an electricly powered steering rack. The steering rack in the non-M versions is a manual steering rack. The electric power assist comes from an electric motor that powers the steering shaft. The motor is located under the dashboard behind the gauges. So the non-M e-steering is essentially a manual rack with a powered steering shaft to reduce steering effort. It's a completely different design than the typical EPS steering rack.

Steering feel of a car is mostly derived from the suspension design and geometry, suspension components and how they are tuned, and of course the tire model and air pressures used. A good example of this is the BMW F30 and the Cadillac ATS. Both cars use the same exact electric ZF steering rack, yet the ATS has far better steering feel vs. the F30 due to Cadillac's better suspension geometry and more robust i.e. stiffer) design. Car and Driver had a very interesting article on the subject several years ago.

Having owned an E46 330i with hydraulic steering and owning a Z4 3.0si Coupe (both at the same time) I have back-to-back experience with both versions. The E86 and E46 essentially share the same basic suspension design. For a mid-2000's EPS system, the non-M E85/86 is very good. Saying it is "crappy" speaks of someone who probably has not driven with it.

I think you just have to accept you get bored with a particular car over time. Nothing wrong with that and it’s obvious you can afford to switch vehicles so often. You’re really running out of options. I’d say 997 or 991.1 911 GT3 but if you’re looking for more creature comforts you have to move down to a GTS. But I fear that you will more likely realize that the Cayman GTS 4.0 is really a newer and more accurate representation of those cars since the 992 is a good bit larger now. You could look to an older Ferrari or the new Lotus but I think those don’t really fit your MO.

I forgot to mention that I know sound is a major part of the car for you. Have you gotten rid of the filters and opened up the valves on the Cayman?

I haven't done any mods yet, it sounds pretty good inside the car to me, not so great outside the car but I am not as concerned about that.

there's just something about the 991.1 GTS shape that draws me in in a way that the cayman doesn't
