Are you sure the larger oil amounts in cars isn’t just due to longer OCIs?

It's both, of course. But heat management is the biggest deal.

Yep. My 2011 Cayman Base with a 2.9L has 7.5 quarts of capacity and dry sump system. To manage the heat of the closed deck and forged pistons, it has four oil scavenger pumps and oil squirters under each piston.

Porsche got real serious about cooling (coolant and oil) when the 9A1 generation motors came out in the 997.2 and 987.2 cars.

Cause the 996's Turbo and GT3 motors kept blowing off cooling hoses, getting them banned on track unless the hoses were welded or pinned. Had a friend of mine happen to him. The "metzger" engine if I'm not mistaken.
