Hence my comment about a $70k SUV.

I guess good try at being snarky?
Might as well get a Cayenne.

If you had said Macan, I'd agree with you. The cheapest Cayenne with no options starts at $67k. The S at $84k and the Turbo at $127k.

I finally realized what the 110 looked like from the side. Besides the Honda Element as some have said. Check out the similarities with the Jeep Patriot! VERY close in profile, although I'm sure in real life the Defender is larger.

I'm just not digging the style at all, plus the tech overload is such a miss on their part. They've completely lost their way. UGH! What a mess.

Hate it...look at how the Jeep Wranglers modernized (same w the mercedes G class) through the years but still has the same essential styling elements. Like someone mentioned earlier looks like a cool Honda Element..pass for me

Well yeah, in the way an Escalade looks like a Scion xB. It's a two box design. Scale is what's different.

True, but if you load this thing to be similar to Porsche trims, you'll be in GTS territory.

Did anyone else notice, in the first two videos Dackelone posted that they both start the same way?

I will consider one and I am not even a diehard LR fan. I love the ruggedness it offers and although reliability is unknown but last time I checked BMWs were not necessarily known for their stellar reliability either. Defender is not about looks and if looks are important than buy any other AWD crossover that is available.

I am not an SUV person but after watching several videos I am convinced that it will be a very capable SUV. Also, LR has invested alot of time in perfecting the drivetrain (watch Richard Hammond video).

I kind of like the look of it, but I get why it isn't everyone's cup of tea. I think if you want something with actual "off road capability" then you might look at LR. There are some interesting video's comparing LR and Jeep, and the Jeep does quite well for a lot less cash. MB G Wagon is a true off roader as well but really pricy. Hey different strokes for different folk though.

I decided to invest a few minutes and configure LR Defender 110 as I would prefer it. The price was north of $90K. BMW X5 M50 became a clear winner without printing the configuration summary.

The X5 and Defender are two very different cars, but I agree. For $90k, the X5 M50 offers so much more. 90k for a loaded Defender that I'd be afraid to take off road...no thanks.

Here are some of my pics of the new Defender seen at the Frankfurt Autoshow. The Defender was big hit!! Also the new Alpina B3 wagon was also a highlight of the show for me and most of the other media in attendance last week.

I'll take my Defender 90 in commercial grade(Wilks & Bros) with the bare-bones options and steely eighteen inch white wheels.

The display rained down water every half hour or so. That's why the car is covered in water drops. The cubes underneath the car moved up and down to show you how well the suspension articulated. Very cool

Yep, total stripper D90 on steelies may need to happen. Maybe they'll come to their senses and offer a manual too.

Many years ago I drove a D90 around some pineapple fields in Kwazulu Natal. I am apparently awful at shifting with my left hand and making left turns when sitting on the right.

Being a Land Rover and all, especially a supposed modern rendition of a classic, I was expecting it to be boxy.

This thing looks feminine.
