All I do is tray place the phone, start, and remove the phone and drive the shit out of my car with no key not recognized error. Now mind you, if I leave the car with the phone for a minute or so while the car is on, Ill get the error but I can still drive.

I have a Samsung Ultra 22 and boy it took some unique things to get it to work though. Im sure the Iphone is easier.
I might give this a try. But I am constantly going in to my garage to do something with he car other than pulling it out to go somewhere and it would suck to always have to have my phone so it would unlock.

Current situation for me is no need to lock the car -ever- at home.

I dont lock my car in the garage so Im not sure why you would have to worry about that nor do I.

I was just stating that to unlock the car, you have to have your phone out which is not a burden to me.

I also do stuff with the car in and out of the garage and in those instances I just place in the tray to start it and thats it...

Your lucky as although my 2020 supports an Android for digital key (via NFC) that's Samsung Only. That has been mind boggling to me but considering Samsung is part of the CCC ultimately there must be some secret sauce that keeps my Google Pixel 6 Pro (and all predecessors) from being able to play ball. Considering NFC is an open standard from the outside in I'd chalk it up to a joint go to marketing strategy with BMW/Samsung.

Roger that, I thought you were referring to the "Comfort Access" feature that locks and unlocks as you walk away or approach. That I do not want.

Your pixel 6 should work, what version of Android are you running?

Yes I agree with this. The phone key to me is something I can back up to and always in my hands.

I think there are other Android devices that are accepted as well outside of Samsung (as mentioned above).

Its the little things that count sir.

I still find the Tesla to be more advanced in ease of operation in regards to the keyless process (aka using the phone) but Tesla is all tech and no sound.

I totally agree. I always have my phone with me and in my hand, so using it to open the car and drive-away is not an issue. And it's especially nice to use the feature when you're going somewhere where you may put down and lose your keys.

I'd never buy a Tesla, but they certainly have some innovative tech. I don't know why no other car has Tesla's sit-down and drive-off feature. Why do you need to push a button, especially in an EV?

I said I never would as well until .... the Plaid. The sheer speed and acceleration is worth the price of admission for me. Its like no other very fast car that Ive ever had (traps 150 and low 2's zero to 60 in the real world). Yes its still a Tesla and would never be my only car but its only my 6th. I can use that tq/hp every single day to crush souls and I like the looks. Again, it would not be my only car but it serves a purpose. Oh I never have to go the gas station and I get 80 miles per 6 bucks (gas is 6 bucks where Im at and thats the KW charge price to get those miles).

The sit down and drive is still technically a beta on mine. It uses the cameras to auto shift it into R or D but it wont roll of course.

Why I love this forum as in the 2019 early 2020 era Samsung only. Likely need to have my dealer do the secret handshake to enable it. Catch 22 being my magnet mount for the phone and piece of metal in the case won't allow it to light up in the wireless charging tray. So could get in the car but then stuck with the NFC contact for the startup.

I'm on Android 12 and avoiding the 13 upgrade due to all of the reported battery life issues.

Thanks and downloaded. May need the secret handshake with the dealer to enable but going to remove the case and magnetic mount srip on it to see if I can get it to work based on the Pixel instructions.

Yep but secret handshake still apparently required as I don't have the tile called out in the instructions. No worries as have a scheduled appointment next Tuesday to buyout the lease and will add a rider on the documents to do so to enable the frigging digital key. 😜

pull the case and see what happens --- my case is just some minor plastic piece so it reads the nfc tray.

changed to Samsung S22+ couple days ago and first, it fits nicely into the charging pad and second, it was easy to setup our both BMWs with digital key.
Took about 20min for 2 cars. I like it.

My23 came with a card, it was in the glove box.. I was able to activate my Samsung S22+ digital key fairley easily, it required both keys to be in the car, in mybmw app it had a bar that said something like "setup digital key" pressed it then it opened Samsung Wallet and I followed the instructions.. works perfectly except I can not share the key or set it up on a second identical phone.

Following up on this.

Am I right that the digital key really only serves the purpose of not having to carry a key fob since it doesn’t open/close on approach, etc?

Any changes since this thread was started?

The new change is called digital key plus that let android users (apple users had this feature before) to lock and unlock the car on approach compared to tapping the phone
I am not talking about the physical card just the wallet digital key
