M850i tire and rim question

As I've said before I'm new to the BMW world. Came from a Ford Shelby GT 350. Aggressive sound and wide tires.

I would like to change the rim and tire combo on my car. Something a little bit wider than these factory wheels. My car came with 20 inch rims.

I've search some of these forums and it seems like most of the guys are talking about just M8 and I know those are different than the M850.

Can you put a 10" wide or wider tire on this car without issues? I would like a square package but would consider offset.
I see others put spacers on to bring them out to finders, but I would rather have the complete package.

Any knowledge would be greatly appreciated

Your Original rims size should be 8Jx20 ET:26 front and 9Jx20 ET:41. You could base on this info to find your new setting. I am actually searching my rim set, too

Happy Searching!

There are a few good sites where you can calculate the variance and it is really helpful. For example I use this one:

https://www.wheel-size.com/calc/

I can't any get that site to work

I spoke to a guy today about Ferrada rims

He told me I could go 20x9 ft / 20x11.5 rear
All I know is the diameter has to be same front to back or the x drive will get messed up

Here is another decent option try it:

https://www.willtheyfit.com/

Indeed with XDrive one needs to be more careful than with non-Xdrive cars when installing rims/tires out of original specs! I think 11.5J rear will be too much for the wheelwell but if you use one of those sites for calculating the variance you can get a reliable comparison and result/s as to how the change will affect the decisive aspects. 9J front would be no problem, as most certainly 10/10.5 rear when respecting the offset or not getting too far off from it. But 11.5J.... I'd question it seriously as rim will be 32 mm closer to suspension components and that is assuming your offset will stay the same!

To add to this, keep in mind the M850i has rear wheel steering to contend with vs. the M8 which doesn't, when adding wider rear tires to the car.

Thanks BigMOFO,
I talked to the manufacturer and he said the 11.5 would work but I would have some Poke. I told him I didn't want that and that I wanted the wheels inside the fender well. He told me to go down to the 10.5

Think I will run
275 40 x 20 in the front and a 315 35 x 20 in the rear. That gives an overall diameter of 28.7 inches and will increase the width on the front tire to 10.8 ,and in the rear to 12.4 versus 9.6 in the front and 10.8 and 26.8 diameter on my current set up
It will mess up speedo but I'm not worried about that to much

I greatly appreciate all the information

Hi,
Have you already installed wheels in this size? I plan to put 265/30/21’ front and 305/25/21 in the rear. Local tuners told me they installed many sets in this size for m850 and m8 without problems. I’m afraid though that rear wheels will stick out of the ark.

Looks great 👍 Do you feel any difference with stock when driving? Tires are much wider.

Yes definitely, but mine came with 19s (brutal winters). It was a tad too tamed for me. I needed something sportier and this definitely gives it. I'm also lowered on H&R.

Not first of course I think many did it with coupe, but as for GC not so many yet I suppose.
Schnitzer has only diffuser for coupe, for GC they provide special pads in stock diffuser , you can see them in photo. I like the way it looks. The quality is top…
As for sound - it’s marvelous:-)) as you know well the sound is very good in stock but Schnitzer just made it a little bit louder, a little lower and with furious cold start ( something which stock missed ) at the same time in comfort it is quite, just subtle growling added which I like too) . It reminds me now of G63 exhaust sound, but even better, as it also pops and crackles. As for wheels and tires- I installed HRE 21’ rims with 265 front and 305 rear - looks changed completely… much wider and more aggressive stance. Highly recommend wider tires

Reviving this thread hopefully. Haven't seen too many M850's running wider tires/wheel combos. What offsets are folks running for the rears and have you noticed a difference in handling from oem?

Thinking of picking up some 10.5x20 et35 for the rears 9x20 et25 fronts. Not worried about fronts but the rears give me pause since the offsets lower than oem et41 for the rears but within reason. Wheel will be 25mm closer to fender and tires 6mm to fender.

Done all the calculators. Creates a positive scrub of 6mm compared to zero with current setup running 255/35/20 fronts and 295/30/20 rear tires on factory 8x20 fronts 9x20 rears.

Not worried about increased weight, not tracking or anything. Anyway anyone running similar offsets?

That looks nice. What’s the offset on your wheels?

I'll be putting on 4 of the m8 front wheels. Waiting on 3mm spacers to arrive and then I'll have them installed. Let's see how this goes or if it was 6k down the drain.

I'm thinking of running 245/45/20 and 275/40/20 on the stock 728m wheel is this possible without issues? Has anyone does this with pics of how tall the side wall will be?

The m8 front wheels fit but the 3nm spacers were needed in front to avoid hitting the steering knuckle. Otherwise it looks great. The rears fit perfectly.
