Currently exploring this option on an M8, but having a hard time finding information on its upside other than the sound itself. Anyone familiar with this option? Does it enhance performance in any way?
Thanks in advance.

The M8. There is an add on option (ZA4) that costs $8,120. It's not on visible on the BMWUSA builder tool site, but it is an option that dealers can add.

Not worth the price tag. Just get an akrapovic, that way you can at least resell and get some money back down the road.

I get a 15% military discount from the dealership by my house.
I called them today to get a price but he said he can’t quote me without a VIN number (she’s currently awaiting production on May 9th) Do you think buying it from the dealership will be cheaper? |

Based on the little I've been able to find online, it appears the $8k package gets you a louder, more aggressive exhaust sound with no performance benefit whatsoever. Doesn't seem worth it.

Some people get more joy from the sound than they do from the speed. All subjective, but for me I’d rather have the louder car than the carbon fiber appearance package |

But I agree...waste of money imo. $7k for some sound improvement is way over priced to me anyway. |

So M performance exhaust is additional and adds a little sound? Then what does the regular m8 come with? Btw I’m happy with the m sports exhaust. It has a great start up sound, good depth and a roar/burble in high M modes with aggressive driving. Overall it does sound a bit subdued at times and it would be nice to have it sound like a v8 performance car a bit more during regular driving. But I wouldn’t pay much extra to have that To answer original question, performance gain is likely irrelevant |

As people have mentioned you do get some sort of gain, now how much of a gain is anybodies guess. Only way one would know is to dyno the car before and after. You will get a louder and more aggressive sounding car. If you go through the dealership, you can get the exhaust added and will be a line item on the build, so the value of your car will increase.

Here are my thoughts on M Performance Exhaust.
It has a different tone than the M Sport exhaust in my X5M Comp. Tone is noticeably deeper and aggressive. It's slightly louder as BMW still needs to conform to noise standards. My first mod was to get rid of the secondary cats. It sounds more aggressive but not annoying nor any drone. The problem with M8 is that it is very well insulated (I actually like that). So to really enjoy the exhaust, you need to open your windows. Next step would be to remove the resonators. I am probably going to purchase the Meistershaft mid resonator delete pipes which will make this a true cat back system.

I will say that with a Racechip and Pedal Commander; the exhaust sound is back in full sport mode; but it's not as loud as some exhausts for sure. I'd definitely go Apkra for exhaust. You might need a new diffuser for the exhaust too. Good luck. |

Racechip also sells an XLR pedal box. But it wasn't available when I got my pedal commander unit. Pedal commander is the original and makes them for every car almost every model. Racechip XLR might be more tuned for bmw since it's made by them in Germany and specifically for bmw. But XLR only has like 8 settings, where pedal commander has 36 different settings. I have a pedal commander in my m850i usually set to City mode and I alternate between -2 for a cruise to +2 for more active driving. Occasionally I will use SportRace +4 ; but normally around City -2. In my x5 vermilion; I typically run Sport +1 but I'll do City +4 or Sport+ at -4 sometimes. |

It's hard to explain without driving; but I assure you, tapping the gas on a pedal commander isn't the same as flooring the gas without. It's so violent that a small tap in full PC Sport+ Max on BMW sport+ it will crash the computers and force a full power loss stall out. Pedal Commander has been proven to reduce 0-60 times by a full 1.1 seconds in the m850i cv. And it doesn't add any horsepower or "alter" anything. I can't speak for the m8; but I'd wager it will save at least 0.5-1.0 second. |

Can't do that without it. I describe it to my friends as unlocking full control of your throttle. |
