I drove her in middle of the night to the best vet/animal hospital here in Belgium...
And I saw it in her eyes that night when I left her over there ,and how she was looking to me....I was not sleeping that night , and than the next morning ...that damn phone call came...

Call the cop, if I put a rat poision for pest/rodent control. If some disagree, I hope 1000s of rabies infested prairie dogs will infest your backyard. (Most of UT and CO people will agree with this).

ETA: Some city and counties have a different rules to control rodents and etc. Please check your local law.

The thread title is dumb. You can ask your neighbor to remove the moth balls and let him know that you and your wife will take more care when walking your dog by his house. That would be the neighborly thing to do.

Well, take a look at this...

My Golden really is awesome. He is very polite and well mannered 99% of the time.

But, every now and then, he gets so excited he will jump on an oncoming person.

He does not always do it. 9 times out of 10, there is no problem.

He might let 9 people walk by with no problem.

But, all of a sudden he will jump on that 10th person.

I can't figure out the trigger. His trainer said to stop the walk and let him calm down. But, Golden's are so stubborn.

What would you do to try to discourage this behavior? Plus, since the frequency is so low, will such training stick? The problem is that it's very embarrassing because just when you think it's under control, bam! He surprises you and he jumps.

Without knowing your dog, or how he acts before he's triggered, can't really help you. With my Husky, when he was about a year he would do the same. Love to jump up to greet people. Then when I walked him, I started putting myself between him and said person. Person coming on the left, Cringer would walk on the right. When multiple people are approaching, or dogs I put him in a sit/lay down and then reward him. Cut down the jumping 100%.

Again that is what works for him. You have to find out what works for your dog.

Maybe you should give him to me. I have a small farm with about 5 acres fenced...and I am much less stressed about neighbors than you appear to be....

He'd fit right in with my 2 Chocolate labs....

I certainly think your neighbor is completely fkd up in the head. That's a horrible thing to do (while legal). While I can't agree with a person setting up poison traps, I also agree that your dog shouldn't enter his property line, ever. That's his property and his right to be pissed for your dog destroying it (no matter how major or minor the damage is). I think the best course of action he should do is setting up cameras as suing you for the damages your dog has caused. Let's flip it around, if HE had a dog that would come outside and jump up on your BMW scratching it every time, would that piss you off? Not enough to poison the dog, but he has every right to be upset.

On the flip side, I would document everything he has done. If a mothball rolls onto the sidewalk and a child eats it, or your dog eats it, you will be able to sue him for damages (I know it's not ideal, but that's the world we live in). Best bet, build a fence, or always keep your dog on a leash, off his property.

I own a waterfront house, and people walk their dogs by on a regular basis. You couldn't even imagine how much minor damage/smell/digging I have to deal with. It's quite annoying.
