M850 Order Info Questions

New to site - would like some general info about ordering 2025 M850 2 dr coupe:

Have been unable to find 2024 in the color /configuration I like.
Questions: Have started working with AutoNation to order but they tell me can't order yet - too soon? But they gave me an estimate at MSRP?
They did say they might be able to take 2k off. I am retired military would I also be eligible for that discount on a factory order? I asked but haven't heard back. Do you need to obtain outside financing to get the full discount? I read $4000 - is that correct right now?

I currently drive a M550 with 20 inch tires - would 19 inch wheels be a good option to reduce pothole damage and still get similar handling? I can order them only on the build sheet. Anyone driving with 19in tires? Thanks for the info.

Welcome to the forum!

I don't have any definitive answers to your questions, but...

Do you know if they have an allocation? I was able to get a March allocation for my M8 when I ordered a few years ago so I'd think the 25 allocations should be out by now. Have you tried shopping around at other dealers?

25's began production in March, your dealer probably just doesn't have any allocations.

You need to do outside (non-BMW) financing to get the full military discount. Otherwise I think it's limited to $500. It will work on a factory order or on a car on the lot.

Update on ordering 2025 M850

The latest info from several dealers here in Southern CA - Factory is not building 8 series until sometime in May - so No allocations until then...Will update status when I get a confirmation.

My 2025 M8 GC was built 2 weeks ago and is sitting at the port in Bremerhaven right now. That sounds like bad intel from your SoCal dealers.

Bad intel likely because none of them got 1 of the initial allocations so it's a waiting game for them. BMW learned their lesson from the glut of 2019 M850i's on the ground when the 2020's started so I got 1 of the 5 first 2020 allocations. Same story with the 2020 M8's except it was so bad they didn't even make 2021s.

If there a lot of 2024s still on the ground (M850i or M8) then expect a slow roll of 2025 allocations and kudos for snagging one. 👍

Just responding re the 19’s. I wanted 20’s but ended up with 19” and honestly I may even prefer them. They ride great. And I like the extra peace of mind you get with them. In addition to the Wheel & Tire. To me the cost is worth the peace of mind alone in having it. I have run flats and it’s pothole city here. I negotiated the cost of the W&T down significantly. Don’t pay their first price. I got 6 years for $1595. And that includes cosmetic! Plus, cancel anytime and get a prorated refund. Stand your ground. They want these cars out the door.

Thanks for the input regarding 19 inch wheels. Lots of potholes here in rainy CA. I like the look of the 20's but not the expense!

I’m an M550 owner but been lurking and commenting here because eventually I’d like to move into an M850GC.

My M550 has 19” wheels. Love them. Lots of potholes here in West TN and I haven’t had any issues besides one bubbled tire.

I currently have a 2024 840i GC loaner for a week or so while my expansion tank is replaced (common on the N63TU3, at least on the 5’s). This 8 has 20” wheels. I will say I’ve been really impressed and surprised by how good the ride is. A few spots have caused it to crash down a little harder but over 95% of the bumps and small potholes it has been really comfortable and smooth. I’d buy the W&T if I got 20’s but after driving this car, I wouldn’t avoid them for fears of less comfort or compromised ride quality.

So there’s my $0.02. These cars are fantastic. I gotta get one sooner or later, and I think I will. The M550 is fantastic too. Just different cars. Depends on what you want.

Agreed and negotiated the W&T protection down as well. Not as good as your deal though as think it was $1700. But pure gold on the wife's LCI 40i as the cosmetics alone to repair all of her curb rashes at $200 a pop equals 9 repairs so was a no brainier. And when I take it for the first service in June there are 2 rims that will start paying for the package. The tire protection is just pure gravy. 👍
