Contemplating the m850i convertible...
I can get a stinking great deal on a leftover 2019 850 convertible... it's not my first color choice (white) and has no options (which I'm OK with) but I'll have to take a bath on my current DD (2019 540i) to make the deal. However, that still allows for a good deal on the 850 at around $100K, give or take.
I borrowed it for the weekend, and the only things I don't like are: - difficult to get into back seat to throw in my briefcase, lunch bag, coat, etc. - minimal trunk - a bit more road noise from convertible top - gawd-awful rear/side visibility with top up - no PDC (which I've gotten used to having) - DBW brakes are a little annoying, but I presume I'll get used to it. Upsides are numerous as most of you know. I would lease it. Thoughts, comments, suggestions, ideas, recommendations? No point in looking at comparable cars, because I always go back to BMW. If I don't buy it and keep the 540i (also a lease) it is no hardship, and the lease payment is about half of what the 850 would be. Despite the cov-19 issue and upcoming recession, my job and income are secure, as is the wife's, so no financial concerns really.

I suspect with the economic pullback from the virus and people sheltering in place, not shopping, dealers will be getting desperate to move product.
On the other hand, if they sell half as many cars, then they need to make twice the profit on each. Thirdly, rumors (fact?) that BMW will be shutting down production, limiting supply, therefore driving up prices (supply/demand) this summer.

It's definitely worth it; however, you have nailed it. With the top up, it is definitely hard to see and get in the back. Also more road noise. With the top down, all these problems go away and the sight lines are pretty good (except the frame windshield). I have all the options and the PDC is nice. Also the sound system BW definitely puts out enough sound to drown out any road noises. I never tested a base model, so I can't speak to the basic models. To your point about the trunk, yes and no. The trunk is very deep and shallow and actually goes back far enough to hold my wife's ski s and my golf clubs. However with the top down, it takes some room. HOWEVER, if you need more room, you move the middle partician up and you get a TON of space. Although the trade off, is that you can't lower the top with the middle part up in the trunk for storage. |

I think you need to start using the trunk rather than the interior if you get he 8. I went from X6 to 8 and it is completely different. I am very fit and able, also small so access is easy, but many people I give a lift struggle as it is low.
