VIN and Chassis Number

I picked up my G14 a few month ago and have found some interesting oddities that tell me it's a much earlier build than its sales date would indicate. I know the last 5 digits of the VIN are the sequential part (I've seen it called chassis number) that can tell you if you've go the 10th, 350th, 10357th, etc. car assembled of that particular run.

Anyone know where the chassis sequence starts in the 8 series? I'm guessing it may start at 98000 or possibly 98900, but purely a guess on my part.

Not sure but the VIN is obviously different for G14 convertibles vs coupes. In my case I absolutely know when my 2020 M850i was built as it was a custom order. The car was completed on 10/24/19 and the last 5 digits puts it into the 48000 range which may had been the base for 2020 Coupes.

I’m not quite clear of what you’re asking...but if you just want to know when the car was built...that’s simple/easy. The month/year that the car was built is right there on the VIN label found on the driver’s door/door jamb. It’s located at the upper left (see pic below). If you want to know the month/day/year that the car was built...then go to a VIN decoding site like www.mdecoder.com and type in the last 7 digits of your VIN:
