I don't know where it is, but I know it can be coded off. and it cuts the noise down by like 60%. it's super quiet. |

My 840i allows me to turn off the active sound in the idrive settings.

On my test drive of a 2020 m850 GC the engine sound was just perfect. This setting described was set to "sporty??" i think. Basically sounded like the car was set in sport mode all the time.
I thought it was perfect though. I like the sound always being there, and thought it was the perfect volume and tone.

On the 2020 M850i's the Engine Sound menu setting is under Car->General Settings but buried almost at the bottom of the menu near the Data and Devices section. I've kept the "Depending on driving mode" aka dynamic as with my standard usage of Sport Individual (with all settings minus chassis set to Sport) I'm guessing it is set to "Sporty". If I'm ever cruising the highways in full Comfort mode the assumption is the engine noise will be set to "Reduced". Makes sense to me but not sure if that aligns with BMW's logic. |

Yep, even with the latest software update from BMW in January, I don't have that option in my 2019 M850i. Maybe if it was there I wouldn't have gone to BimmerCode to remove it.
But BimmerCode did let me code off the warnings, seatbelts and a couple other annoying things. |

That said, that active exhaust is annoying and we will code it out. I’ll have it remote coded for simplicity |

I have used Bimmercode to turn Active Sound off on my M8C. There is less noise w/o it, but the M exhaust still produces a sound that's loud enough.

By "off" I'm assuming you mean selecting the "reduced" mode or does the 840i actually have an "off" setting? To those 2020 M850i/GC owners as posted in a separate thread on this setting if you set it to "reduced" it will basically eliminate the fabricated engine noise from the audio system. However, it also forces the engine/transmission to Comfort mode regardless of what you may have set in Sport Individual. So at least for me I leave it in "depending on driving mode" and if I wanted to kill the fabricated engine sound all together then Bimmercode would be the mechanism to do so.
