Curious what everyone drove before stepping into their M?

I had a 2019 Mustang GT that was ESS Supercharged, made 687whp on pump gas. Sadly that was totaled in November, but it allowed me to step up to an M3CX.

I also have a 2015 VW GTI manual trans w/Performance Pack that makes way too much power for FWD (446whp/414wtq on pump) that I use as a daily driver.

Lost of every car I’ve owned.
1. 1985 Mustang SVO
2. 1980 Camaro Z28
3. 2000 Acura Integra
4. 2005 Neon SRT4
5. 2008 Mazda RX8
6. 2006 MazdaSpeed 6
7. 1991 Miata
8. 2005 Cadillac CTS-V
9. 2014 Fiesta ST
10. 2011 Mustang GT (red)
11. 1990 Isuzu Trooper
12. 2005 Honda Fit
13. 2018 Subaru STI
14. 2016 Dodge RAM 1500
15. 2019 Mustang (charcoal)
16. 2015 VW GTI
17. 2024 M3 Comp/xDrive

I've driven a lot of cars, but have only owned BMWs. All but 1 were M cars!

My first car was an E92 328i, after that I upgraded to my first E92 M3 which got me hooked on M cars. Owned an F10 M5 briefly before getting my F80.

Haha I know!

My wife has a running tally of my cars, I just had her send it to me and updated my initial post. I'm going to use this thread later on "see, it's not just me with a car problem!"

Did you test to see if it would shift into reverse when it wasn't moving?

I'm pretty sure the one I looked at had more problems than that lol. Looked super clean, too clean. Clearly had just been painted. Also the steering wheel wasn't aligned properly and the guy REALLY wanted to sell it. Just gave me too many red flags so I passed on it.

Really wanted to drop a modern EA888 GTI engine in it. Oh well, I've got my MK7 now.

I traded in my Mazda 2004 RX-8 on my 2014 M235i.

The RX-8 was a pretty fun car, if you kept the revs up. On the other hand, shitty MPG plus the Wankel engine was prone to flooding at times. Torque was virtually non-existent below 4000 RPM, but loved the 9000 RPM redline.

I had an RX-8 for a while. Loved how smooth the motor was and that RPM was rad. But ya man, the MPG sucked and it was mods were stupid expensive for it.

In the early '10s, I was a driving day instructor with an excellent student who drove an RX-8.

When we would exit a slow corner onto a long straight and I waited for something to happen, I would say "It's okay to go to gas now.", he always said "I know, I've been full-throttle since [way back there]."

The best-driving car I've ever owned. Superb steering. Great handling. In comparison with the current M3's 473 hp, down on power but the 981 certainly had enough.
