840i UK exhaust burbles

Hi,

Newbie to the forum, I'm considering getting an 840i.

Looking at US reviews online, there are some burbles and pops on the 840i exhaust, however sometimes UK versions of cars are more tame.

Does the UK 840i exhaust have the same sound/does anyone know if a UK video that demonstrates the sound?

What year are you looking at mate? Any car with the RDE2 emissions standard is quieter - Q1 2021 it was introduced.

It would be new - the 840i seems to be pretty good value on lease atm.

Fantastic cars mate, but it’ll be fairly muted. It does make some noise with the valve open, but nothing huge. Plenty of whooshes and whistles from tne turbo though - I think it sounds great.

The uk spec cars are restricted by OPF filters . The US has none if that ( correct me if I'm wrong ) . Eu regulated s..t ! Also , OTA updates download more restrictions and I think the US is more hit by this. Europe has OPF as a destination within ...if ordering an M8 from outside the Eu then the regulations of the country apply . Shame ... but I gotta admit , those crazy pops and bangs are a pain in the ass for anyone else but the driver....I can understand the law change very well . Some cars are so bad. I prefer the sound of a str8t 6 and a V8 sound any time . Pops and bangs us a phase that will become for junior drivers only ( one day ) . No offence please to others who love that kinda things . GT cars are fast and comfortable and the 8 series is that .
Good luck with your motor . Enjoy every minute.

US just has the CAT's but BMW did de tune the pops and crackles as well. The pops and bangs is not a junior thing its a BMW thing, more of a trademark from days of the past. I do agree they can be over done with tunes etc but the factory before detune was just a trademark of the BMW way. Heck the wife's X3 M40i in sport mode has more pops than the M8 stock to stock... lol Just the way it used to be.

True . Real pops and bangs is pure power sounds. Artificial ones just sound so cheap . Down shifting gears on old school sports cars produced such sounds naturally and with the odd flame , now , it is junior yes .

Those were the days - my old S2000 with a few mods used to fire out the odd flame on upshifts / downshifts with lovely real pops & bangs.

Flames might be a bit much for me, but a bit of theatre wouldn't have gone amiss.

Test drive due tomorrow - quite excited.
