Switching to sales here myself too. Engineering / PM background. Won't be selling any of the stuff I worked on so it'll be a learning curve. Also not even sure where to start - it was recommended I go sales associate to get the lay of the land then apply for systems engineer / sales engineer after about 6 months.

Damn good job. I did it in Nürnberg, Germany for a while. Tough job, always hustling, can't make mistakes. Mucho respect for those who excel at it. Even today, 30 years later, I still appreciate the effort it takes for UPS and Fedex folks to get packages to my doorstep. Definitely essential workers, IMHO.

Boeing 737 Captain for a major U.S. airline, qualified in the 737-700, -800, -900, -900ER and Max.
Retired USAF/USAFR Lockheed C-5 Galaxy Tactical & Air-Refueling qualified Flight Examiner & Standardization/Evaluation pilot. Retired as a Lt. Col-- I turned down several jobs leading to Command (which you need to make full Colonel)-- all I ever really wanted to do was fly and teach. I was one of the very, very, *very* rare AF pilots who never had a full-time desk job and who's job for 27 years was basically "fly your balls off". Im currently a housewife. I used to work sales, did some time in a call center making over 75k just as a sales rep. Took home an award for top sales country wide for two months.
Those were good days, until I caught management making changes that directly impacted everyone's pay (and mine was down about $15,500, yet I had done just as much if not more work that year). Learning from my spouse who has owned his own business, there's alot more freedoms involved than being someone's lackey. |

With this role I can springboard onto being a PM or sales acct manager because I will have experience in both areas. What got me into the role was all of the extra reading to gain system and product knowledge. I had the engineering mentality but not how the equipment was used. Thats where those nights of reading papers came in handy. And also having conversations with other sales people and systems engineers. The talks with my managers and HR about my intentions for leaving engineering were interesting this past year.

I work for a company that produces and manufactures special niche tools. Some of our tools are BMW factory tools that have BMW part #s on them.

I was in construction management most of my adult life. Wifey and I opened a restaurant almost 6 years ago, and on December 28 we will be opening a virtual kitchen of a different concept. Actually at least 5 concepts... Virtual kitchens have no dine in, only pick up and delivery through delivery apps, so low overhead. Doing this we can put as many concepts on apps as we wish, and keep only 4-6 employees for all. 5 year goal- fine tune 1 kitchen, then replicate throughout the Western US.
