After all, the 840 is the thinking man’s 8 Series, not least those without any insecurity about the size of their man part… |

Wasn’t suggesting anything otherwise. Also why I am considering one myself.

To be fair, given a choice I would have loved an M850i or M8...

I have the LCI with the larger screen and it seems fine to me. It's not like you get a ton of use out of the extra space, but it doesn't seem unnecessarily large to me. An extra diagonal 2" isn't really enough space to do much extra with other than get some larger map areas. Its not like you can get an extra column of info on it and AA and Carplay designers don't design for things like that. It's just the normal stuff, just a little bigger.

I drove the M850i while it felt stiff; the car was definitely rotating in corners more (must be the rear steer system working it's magic). As for the reason why you would get an 840i. You want those awesome looks, laser lights, sleek side profile, Merino Leather, and Bowers & Wilkins sound system. A similar spec M440i would be 25-30k less. When you buying the 8 you expect those luxury's over the lower series at minimum. Not everyone needs an V8. Some just want the luxury with a legendary reliability and fuel economy of the B58!

As an aside, why would anyone want a V8 GC? Seems a bit of a contradiction?? |

I test drove an 840i initially and was suitably impressed by the car. It felt like a BMW should. Drove the M8 a couple.of weeks later and my head was turned. You can't compare the two, if an 840i is a purchase of the mind the M8 is a purchase of the heart.
Not sure where the hate comes for the 2 series, wife has a 220i as a daily and its a pretty solid car. Its another car I felt went back to the traditional BMW feel when you drive it. But yiu cant compare the two, the 840i was genuinely a lovely car to drive but I ways knew that if an M8 or 850i passed me on the road Inwould have regretted purchasing one. |

I had a 24 840i coupe loaner last week, too. We have a X7 40i so I like the engine but I feel it’s too little for the 8 series. The car felt underpowered. The screen is definitely massive. Again, we have the 12.3 in our X7 and it’s great! However, I feel it’s integrated better in the X7 due to the angle and the larger dash. The one in the 840 just seems really upright and it makes it seem larger than it is. I will say I actually just bought a 12.3 LCI screen and am putting it in my 22 as the 10.25 inch feels small coming from my AMG GT (which also had a 12.3 screen) and the X7. It’s great to have if you use CarPlay.

The only thing that pisses me off is the eternal road construction mess right in front of my house, which makes it almost impossible for me to back out of my small garage with the 840d. |
