Map 6 is entirely custom; map 2 is Terry's--I'm unclear what you're questioning here? |

It’s a risk but, to be clear, I’d been doing this for 18+ months and thought I had a handle on it. In retrospect, I think that was mostly true of the software variables and interplay between them but my desire to go faster overshadowed my ICE expertise and I pushed too far. Software engineers (me) playing with hardware limitations they only partially understand and even then, at a rudimentary level is a recipe for boom.

RaceChip is configured to run at a minimum of California crappy highly taxed 91.
As your engine's default, the higher octane, more power output. But, there is still a ceiling limitation. So, RaceChip map 7 with higher Octane (100RON) will give you more power. Unlike the more expensive and tweakable piggy, it has faster processing speed and better hardware in general. Slow processing speed trying to juggle with a lot of data is not a good combination. If you ever find my dyno post, it is always on Costco California 91 before and after. Not before with 91 then after with 93 or Exx mix.

As others have said in my absence, this wasn't a RaceChip, it was a JB4--the RaceChip has precisely 3 options: ON, OFF and tuning map number. The JB4 has 100s. |

I don’t anymore since I no longer have a JB4.
I initially used race gas and then my supplier closed up shop so I tried octane boosters—read the rest of the thread to see how that went (not well). |

can't believe with all the safety crap on these engines, it's even possible to blow them up via piggyback. glad all is well now though! I have been there with other cars, one of the worst feelings ever.

To my surprise, my nearest gas station is one of the few locations to offer e85 🤯 What are the pros and cons of running this vs the 91 fuel offered at best in my area? Non-chipped I feel like I’m getting something wrong bc I always thought “race fuel” was more expensive, but it’s listed as $3.29 a gallon which is cheaper than alternatives Is this different from e85r? In regard to power/octane? |

Update...ran a 10.5 today with still some spin coming out the hole...I really don't think i'll do much better as I as low on gas and had -1200 DA. 10.4 is def possible under perfect conditions...
did a half mile run too...16.7@160mph...is the car limited to 160? it felt like I hit a limited near that speed. videos...def rec race chip...easy power for the money. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/UPzKbVATaNg https://www.youtube.com/shorts/6fcJ1k6iceg

Usually if you have carbon ceramic brakes , your M8 should have de- limiter. If it felt like you hit the rev-limiter at 160mph , then , yes , rev limiter is 155mph.

The Race Chip makes a huge difference and I think it’s worth it. I have it on two cars (16 X5M, 21 M5C) and I’m going to add it to the M8C Vert that I just picked up. I forgot how much of a difference it makes until I picked up the M8 this past week. I’ve always run 93+ fuel and map 7. The only thing I am careful with is the X5M because the half-shafts can be an issue when pushing it from a stop. My only other mod on the M5 and M8 is the M performance exhaust.
Edit: Well, after typing that up I should mention on the M5 I have all the intake mods as well…Dinan & Venturi which also helped. |
