M Day at Thermal….

Literally, it was a gas…my first track day of any kind and pretty happy I came in second on the lap times….it was hard getting up at 5am though to beat the heat lol…never hit 135mph in my life, nice there aren’t cops in the track…

When did this happen?

I found out about Thermal this past January and we had a great time there.

Cant believe its only 10 minutes from our house out in the desert!

We drove the M2,4 and 5….

On the tiny track the M2 was a blast…..

Can’t remember if we were in the 4 or 5 on the south thermal club track, but at 135 I felt it was plenty fast, but I could feel the need for more acceleration on the straight…

Handling in all of them is amazing….and the standard M seats were great. But I can’t imagine not having CCB on the M cars, they really withstood hours of hard full braking…

Did you get to do some hot laps with the instructors?

I have the M driver's package with my car and am looking to booking an event at thermal in March

Last I spoke with someone, they mentioned the m driver package was interchangeable with one day m school due to availability reasons? One advantage of the latter was that you don't have to share a car with another person?

Can you let me know which package you chose and how the day went?

Regular m school you get your own ride and don't have to share. Limited or no real track time. (I forget)

Advanced m school has extended time on the big boi track.

There is the main instructor there with an amazing sense of humor.
Not only that, he can give you a hot lap in an M5 Comp that will make
you sh!t in your shorts. Its fun there and the food upstairs is great.

One day m school, skip the driver program….if for nothing more than doing the laps on the big boy track….amazing fun

Broken down into three groups, two groups of 5 and my group of 4.

1)classroom breakfast
2)directly onto what I’ll call the mini track for many laps
3)drifting pad
4)accelerate turn training, they give you your speed out of the turn
5)hot laps on the big boy track, south thermal race club track, we caught the other group and we’re hitting mid 130s on the back stretch…
6)rat race on the drifting pad, bragging rights as I did horrible my first go round then ended up winning our rat race…
7)timed laps on the mini track
8) ended with one hot lap covering the entire bmw track

I may have missed something but that’s basically the plan.

Lots of coaching the entire time.

If residing within a reasonable driving distance from Thermal, M Day is more fun per every acceleration second than any other event.

Very close to what Ghostrider described earlier in the thread.
Laps on small track; skip pad; rat race; hard breaking and turn exercise; time laps on small track; laps on one part of the big Thermal track; hot lap with instructor on the BMW track; M2s, M3s, and M5s were used.

Instruction was good and made a tangible difference.
My lap times start around 51 and ended in the low 48s. That and I figured out that I could have shaved off another 1.5s or so with better launches at the start.

Great experience; excellent instructors; even the food was good.
I did get a little queasy twice when in the car with an instructor driving however.

For the Advanced M school, I'll need to take some motion sickness meds to make sure I don't get ill.
