I finally caved and spent the money on the OEM CF spoiler. Now I just need to get some tape and the time and motivation to swap it out.

Holy crap. I got the old spoiler off using the twine stuff. Easy enough, but OMG its going to take me FOREVER to get all of the gunk from the previous tape off. I'd considered taking it to the dealer to let them do it for ease of use and I'm kinda wishing I had.

I could post updates during the process. I have about a 4th of it off. At least (I think) if I somehow screwed the paint up getting it off it will be under the new spoiler. I thought the same thing trying to get the rear super PITA Roundel off on my M4.

Well, this is OEM to OEM, so maybe that's a separate thread as opposed to aftermarket back to OEM.

STATUS UPDATE: 50%.
FUN UPDATE: It's very un-fun.

STATUS UPDATE #2. 100%
FUN UPDATE #2: It was never fun, but did get easier as I developed a bit of technique.

I have some Goo Gone that seemed to work well enough once I developed a technique with it.

I hate this DIY LOLOL ... I had the boys at RW carbon remove the gunk in less than 10 min with some weird compound and light machine. Nothing I would have personally of course (parts).

I literally almost added to my post that Vic55 would never has dealt with this DIY crap. He'd have r33_RGSport do it. I did see this rubber wheel that you put on your drill and it seemed to lift the gunk off, but was too impatient to wait for that. In the end it was only a few hours work so I'm glad I did it. I was curious to know how my dealer might have done it.

Ben didnt do mine because I got my spoiler locally at RW Carbon. I use them for quite a few things on my M's and other cars like former AMG's.

They are SME's for sure in removal and install because my RW spoiler is perfectly mounted left and right gap wise and zero lifting.

I would be very scared at the dealer level... spoilers are generally not installed as a DIO but PIO and they might burn the paint. Also do you have ceramic coating? Thats a big deal as I would guess the dealer would over buff outside the lines and remove the coating.

Ah that's right. I forgot you used them for the carbon stuff. I don't have ceramic. I take my car through the wash that has, gasp - brushes (don't tell the car wash police) and I know that wears the coating off much faster so I didn't think it would be worth the money.

Yea, Vic55 doesn't trust anyone with his cars with anything but simple job.

But yea, without that 3M adhesive removal tool, it can take forever.
Even with that tool, you have to have a steady hand. My friend borrowed it and ended up dented the trunk since he let the tool bounce around on top of the trunk.

Yet, people said it is too much to charge 2 hours labor for it.
Recently got 2 guys that said they will do it themselves after I quoted them 2 hours of labor.

My lord, your entire journey was all about the color and the custom order and then the video of your actual experience, which was awesome.

And now you treat your prized possession like this>>> Brushes LOLOLOl

Coating can last based on the product you choose and the type of washes you do to your car. I always pay the extra to have a guy come to my house or hand wash it... its money well spent for sure and especially with your paint.

I know. I know... I used to go to the DIY wash with 2 buckets, soap, mitts, etc. I was really there just to use their soft water. It was good bonding time with my car. However.... I eventually realized that I didn't always have the time for that, wasn't going to be standing outside in 20 degree weather in February in Ohio washing my car, and, that my desire to have an always clean car surpassed my desire for a swirless car for the ~3y I usually keep cars. So, I signed up for one of the unlimited wash packages at the local wash and it makes the washes feel like they are free and my cars are always clean.
