Thanks for the update. I’ve got the new Alpha One amp on order. Ships from UAE like the speakers. I’ll report back on the performance after it’s installed.

new Bimmertech amp for 8 series

Hi everyone,

As I mentioned I went with replacement bimmertech for all speakers and there was noticeable improvement. I also decided to go with the very recently available bimmertech alpha one amp. I had it installed last week. a few quick observations:

1) apparently the new amp is installed inline with the old amp????
2) while it does boost sound level it's not as big a bump as I would have expected,
3) since the bimmertech amp doesn't actually replace the Harmon Kardin amp it must be mounted somewhere in a random spot

Overall I'm not sure the new amp does what I had hoped it would do.

Also the Bimmertech subs have almost too much bass. I might try the Bavsound if I were starting from scratch.

Regarding the Bavsound under seat ghost subs, I have them (3 years old so could be V1) in my G30 5er with the HK audio system. I installed them and adjusted the equalizer according to recommendations from Bavsound and the result is marginally better than stock for the SXM source I mostly listen to. On TuneIn streaming it is more pronounced. Then again, Dr says my hearing is deteriorating at certain frequencies so that could be part of it. And I haven’t listened to a fully stock HK system for comparison so it could be much better than I perceive it to be.

As a lifelong audiophile myself, I can offer this thought. When an already existing top of the line speaker system exists, it's very hard to get to the next level. So if your original woofers were already pretty good, getting a better sound is hard. Say if the system sucked in the first place upgrading is easy then. But if they sound great to begin with upgrading is much harder. So a noticeable difference is hard to achieved. Also some installs simply limit the performance no matter what you do.
This is why many studios seek out the vintage speakers of the 50's, 60's and 70's. Some of those speakers were the best ever made.
It doesn't have to be new to be excellent. Some stuff is just hard to improve on. Audio is that beast. Once you get to the top level it's hard to go further. Sometimes money does it of course.
And yes, our ears have a huge impact on sound. As we age it goes bad....lol....kinda.
My hearing is not as good as it once was either. Highs go first.

It's simple. The Alpha One is not a direct replacement into the OABR fabric like the Audiotec Fischer Match amp/DSP. In fact the Alpha One only does 6-8 channels when even the HK is a 16 channel system in the coupe and 12 channel in the vert.

The AlphaOne amp is a rebranded Match UP 10DSP.

The HK system is 9ch, 16 speakers.

Interesting and yes the HK is 9ch as I was thinking of the B&W channel wise.

I have to be honest….I’m really underwhelmed with the B and W. I’ve never chosen that option before and it was in the M8 I bought.

The stock Burmester in my AMG GT was way better I thought….
