Seems to be the trend, what do they mean total ac failure...just the compressor or more?

One laser light failed on one after a few thousand K's. Replaced under warranty - part cost €4000 excluding tax. Not sure anything is bullet proof these days. AC failed on my wife's JCW Mini under warranty the whole to was replaced.

Looks like you aren't alone. Seems that V8 BMW's have been affected as X5/6 M50 and X5/6 M owners have reported similar issues. Apparently the compressor is on backorder for some forum members with a wait time of 2-3 months! All this on a $100k+ vehicle doesn't sound very good, not to mention one forum member even had his tint done before this and can't open the windows. Hopefully your dealer can sort this out or put you in a different vehicle.

Dealer's rep said they do not know which of the 3 parts failed, so they are looking to replace the whole system. She said it would take at least 3 weeks to get the parts in the country, but I have read much longer (2-3 months wait). This just sucks...

Don't have an 8 series but was just going through the thread. Picked up a brand new 2020 M550 last week. Had the same issue with the AC compressor (dealer said it was frozen or something not sure what or why it would be frozen given the car wasn't driven). Dealer took about 5-6 days to fix it after getting part from Germany and then I was able to take delivery. Seems to be issue will all the V8 engines. But I'm sure you have the same feeling as I did as it's a crappy feeling that your brand new car already has something wrong. Took me a few days to get over it lol.

I simply can't believe BMW is letting these cars be sold knowing there's an issue. Why not check the cars, I am sure the dealer knows of this systemic AC issue as it seems to be effecting most V8 cars right now.
I would be pissed and def cancel my sale until the car is fixed "Yea here's your no AC 100k+ car have fun with it until we fix it in a month or two" Awful and sorry you're going through it

This is a hot issue and BMW's cold response is conditioning us to accept mediocrity.

For these A/C failures - are they not blowing A/C at all? Not sure if mine has it... the A/C technically works but it phases in and out every few minutes (ice cold air for a few min then a changeover to regular air and then back)

I remember your A/C issue and it aligned with a few others but recently people are reporting flat out failure.

AC Freezing then warm
My M8 with 750 miles is in the shop with 3 others experiencing AC that freezes and then goes warm for 2-3 minutes. They say they have no idea what is wrong with any of them. Sucks for a car that was 160K. Anyone have luck getting theirs fixed? I would like to tell my dealer how to fix it or I'm going to sell this pig. Intermittent AC doesn't work in Texas!

Drove off the lot and a/c immediately failed. Failed = blowing high but not cold air at all. Restarts (multiple) did nothing. It's 90 degrees and I thought at first it was just the intense outside heat - or even that I was just perhaps doing something wrong. Drove right back into the dealership and they said this is common problem on several models, and on a very high number of new M8s. Some failures are immediate, others within first few hundred miles. I was told I may be waiting for a month or so for parts and fix. Of course they gave me a loaner car to drive. Dealer was absolutely aware of this. They didn't even test my car before I took delivery. SA said BMW has sent **multiple** notes to all US dealers - and still - nothing was proactively done to ensure the dealership finds this BEFORE the customer takes delivery. I assume it's because they want sales paperwork signed and all before this, otherwise sales transactions would be delayed. Just a note - when bmw has known of things like this, in the past, vehicles have been 'stopped' at incoming US port VPC before being sent on to dealers. I am not sure when a BMW considers this a model-wide issue vs occasional occurrence.

jwestfield that is misleading and deceptive conduct on the part of your dealer. It is shocking. Each new car must go through an exhaustive check AND test drive. Agree with your conclusions - they knew and wanted the sale complete so the money is in the bank and the car "off" the lot. It's now an owner and BMW problem not a dealer problem.
