M850i E85 Tune
Over the last week I've been working with Cary Jordan flashing and fine tuning his E85 tune via Bootmod3.
Big thanks to Mike at Extreme Power House and Cary for answering all the questions so quickly. This process was totally new to me, but it's been fairly simple using the BM3 adapter to log the data. Biggest problem is finding a road that will allow you to do a full 3rd gear pull without running into someone. I also added the CTS Turbo Intake, which adds a little bit more sound character to the front of the car. I think we are in the later part of the data logging/revision tuning and the power difference is just incredible. I'm talking about sensations that I have not felt with ICE cars before. I had a modified 2021 M5C, and this thing just pulls much harder from down low all the way through the gears. Once all is said and done, I will most likely get a dyno done, but I have no reasonn to doubt Dinan's claims that our cars make close to 800hp on E85. "Only" modifications are XHP Stage 2 tune, CTS Turbo Intakes and E85 Stage 1 tune by Cary Jordan. Last edited by AmooManiak; 02-28-2024 at 01:28 PM.. |

Heck with the research I've seen you don't even need E85 to hit 800hp numbers, just some work on bolt on mods. Though E85 helps a ton, now I wonder what it would do with the typical power mods. Heat exchanger, bigger intercoolers, exhaust, intake and pure 900's.

We may be getting a place in Cali and the 91 octane there isn’t the best (we have93 here), are you guys mixing 91 with e85? I’m hearing from the bmw dealer out there e85 is a bit corrosive and to be careful mixing/using it.

I do this but with 100octane with 91 to get about 93-94ish. that is what the OEM tune makes its most power. Not a bad way to improve performance by doing very little. But 100 is about 10 bucks a gallon and I need 4. lol

You might want to try the blend with the 85 trick and the dealer in CA said it shouldn't do any harm if the ratio stays at/below 3 gallons of E85 per fill up. Does anyone use octane booster, and does BMW permit it? I used to run it in my boosted 930 turbo's and it turned the inside of my exhaust's orange, but the cars ran great on it/no pinging even at 1.5 bar of boost.

Yeah intake only for sure, but exhaust never get nearly as bad as the intake does on these DI's.

There's no way it can handle straight E85 but even if it could, E30 gets you to pretty much max of what this engine can reliably handle. E85 I think your asking loudly for the rods to part ways with your bottom end saying it lightly 😅😊 My car makes around 700whp on E30 680# torque |

I know about Performance Eurowerks. They are only 15 minutes from me. At the end of the day, I felt more comfortable going with a BMW specific tuner who has tuned thousands of cars across the U.S. with many members to back up the reliability. I'm pretty sure they know what they're doing given that they were the first ones to come out with the E85 tune for our platform (even before Dinan.) Also, I felt much better having the ability to log the data and send it to the tuner at any point if an issue would arise to troubleshoot as opposed to having the car towed to the tuner in case something came up.
The thing you really should be worried about is if the tuner does not have safeguards in place to protect the engine. https://www.jordan-tuned.com/ Would be nice to hit the track at some point in the spring and do a comparison between the tunes. |

I don't understand part of your reply. Alex does work off datalogs so he does the same as most tuners. Alex expertise is BMWs as he's contracted by race teams and goes to the events to keep cars running in top form.
Safeguards are handled by torque limiters in which case tunes are set up accordingly. We can definitely meet at US131 and line up. You can also look at dragy app and search M850i and there's 2 spots im not #1. 0-60 mine is 2.79 on all season tires #1 is 2.76 🙈 Changing tires Tuesday 😁 When will you have tune completed? |
