Timeline on re-design on m850i (G15) - next gen

I purchased my 2019 m850i (dravit Grey) and really love the car....

I feel like the lighting scheme will end up mirroring the new 7 series with the light bar going across the rear...

Was wondering when you thought the NEXT generation facelift will be released? 2021, 2022 or beyond?

These cars may not even make it beyond MY21/22 due to BMW's new CEO.

It's been discussed here w/ articles posted, the new CEO is eliminating slow selling models and unfortunately the 8 fits in this category.

Yep. The 8 series coupe and convertible, X2, Z4 and 2-series convertible are all possibly on the chopping block due to the CEO prioritizing profits and EV's over a crowded lineup and low volume sellers. The 8GC however, is rumored to stay in the lineup, however it has not been guaranteed but will likely outlive the coupe and vert, similar to the 6GC.

Agree, no one is appreciating sports coupes, roadsters and drop-tops. Shockingly Merc is redoing the SL however, this time with a soft too, but pretty much the selection of convertibles are going to be incredibly slim.

yup, the soft is to save weight and cost vs the amazing (and safer) folding hard top.

It's ok but still not for me, the Uris is about the nicest I've seen, but I'm just not a four door guy and SUV's look like jacked up bloated sedans, and if made to choose between the two, I'd rather have a sedan. No offense intended.

If it's destined to stay, the facelift would arrive around end of 2022 as a 2023 MY.

My 2 cents is that BMW won't chop off the 8 just yet, but wait for an entire cycle, somewhere around 2026.

Agreed as when I first started looking about 3 years ago the M4 convertible with a folding hard top was on the list. That said reviewers, etc. beat it up left and right due to the additional weight vs a soft top. My guess is when the new M4 hits the street the convertible option with be a soft top.

I had the first 3 series that had a folding hardtop (335i). The top was an engineering marvel but added a lot of weight. We had good luck in the 7 years that we owned it but the top was misaligned once and needed to go in for an adjustment. At the time the advice of the forums was to never put the top up if you were not on level ground. In the winter the car was just like a coupe. It was my wife's DD.

We'll see how my M8 vert compares. I won't be driving this one in bad weather so I suspect the soft top will be fine.
