Unfortunately it would seem that the new BMW doesn't seem to follow it's concepts as closely in the past. Makes this announcement less exciting.

I agree...we have many many miles to travel before we actually see the true form... the real news is simply that there will be a gran coupe.. which is awesome. The 6 series GC looked fantastic and from the shapes that I believe I can see under the camo of the M8... the front hood lines look unique. I have a feeling both the 8 coupe and gran coupe will be outstanding.

Aston Rapide territory. It wont sell. Why they do this? They push into a price bracket that others will stay away from. Aha Halo car perhaps.

Do you mean build a gorgeous concept car everybody loves and wants and then go into production with something that looks very different?

Does anyone knows when the production 8 series will be unveiled? Not the grand coupe, the regular 8

We'll pretty much know what it'll look like once the 8 Coupe shows it's true face

Rapide is going Electric so I am assuming this will too at some point.

Will it sell? There is greater chance than zero that it will sell!

Not really, the Rapide was over $200k. This will probably be between $100k-$150k, more expensive than the 6GC but not twice as expensive.

I think these cars make emotional purchases so where something like an M760i is a narrow niche, this may sell better. We’ll see...

Not for me, but I wish them success.

I like the sleek profile. I'd wish it was sleek like the old 8 and not super bulky. But then again, I'm sure it's a lot of extra safety components that make it big.

This is a computer generated image, not even a real physical concept.
Judging by what they've done to the 8 series concept to 8 series production..this kind of marketing BS pisses me off.

So true and so disappointing. BMW's concept cars used to be near production ready, maybe only showing stylized rear-view mirrors and over-sized wheels. But the 8 Series and Z4 Concepts changes all of that. BMW is now over-promising and under-delivering.

The image above seems to show a full-blown concept-car akin to the previous 2 door concept, according to the again exaggerated ducktail trunklid. Which would be very weird if we assume the toned down production 2 door will also simultaneously be unveiled at Geneva.

So either a true concept-car 8er GC will be unveiled at Geneva while the production 2 door will skip the show, which seems quite unlikely given the latter has already been teased for a while. Or the image above is just a stylized sketch of what will actually be an almost production-ready show-car 8er GC, akin to the 6er GC Concept back in 2010, but this too would be quite strange if it's unveiled alongside the actual production 2 door...

It's a shame the 6-series is now a fat turd.

Yeah it's pretty crazy. Not even 3-4 yrs ago BMW's concepts were near mirror images of the production models.
