Took a closer look at the Ford GT. Disappointing.

Was at the Ford dealership in Sta. Clara and they happen to have a brand new $190k 2005 Ford GT sitting in their showroom. Of course, I had to take a close look at it while I was waiting for my friends to purchase a hybrid SUV.

First thing I notice is how wide this thing is. With 19" wheels on the rear and 18"s on the front, the stance is very aggressive. But parts of it doesn't look solid because of how there are sectional panels everywhere.

Looking closer, the gaskets on the windows aren't flush. There are bulges here and there, and the fiberglass intake linings don't flush against the chassis. You can take your finger and play with it a bit. Makes a creaking noise, that's how loose they are. The plastic grill just above/behind the engine bay are slightly warped. Finally, the lines where panels meet aren't aligned.

Disappointing for a $190k.

I'm sure performance-wise, it's a stunner. But to those looking for quality in craftsmanship, this just isn't the car for you.

it's a supercar

it's not about perfect fit and finish

it's about being the baddest thing on the road

I'd love to have one, and for less than a F430 it could be considered a "bargain"

what's next, the GT doesn't get good enough gas mileage, or the tires are too expensive?

it's a supercar

Ferrari's and Carrera GTs have perfect fit and finish. The Ford GT is crude in comparison and not worth the money. Check out:

Ford GT - $150,000 - 2 recalls so far
BMW E90 - $40,000 - 0 recalls so far

Ok, we're comparing apples to oranges here, but let's forget the namplates for just a second and compare price vs. the number of recalls.

Ford woud be the last place I'd invest $150,000 in. First because it is a Ford, and secondly because it's a Ford. Nothing against Ford, but there aren't any "Fix or repair daily, or found on road dead"-type acronyms that I know of for Aston Martin, Ferrari, Porsche, etc.

Let's just say I think I'd be able to sleep at night knowing there was a DB 9 in my garage. I couldn't say the same if it was a Ford GT

I still like Aston Martin, though, so see...Ford isn't really that bad after all!

The GT has always been a P.O.S. in my eyes. How the hell honestly would you ever take a Ford over a Ferrari or a Porsche... this is a car for NASCAR junkies.

I saw the Carrera GT at Beverly Hills Porsche this weekend. Fit and finish are beyond compare. (so was $449,000 price tag!)

If I'm paying that much for a car it better be a beautifully crafted vehicle.

My point exactly. Tell me I'm not just paying for an engine, so to speak.

Ford is a waste of space and time nowadays.

There used to be a time way back when ford was a good car company, but now its trash.

you guys are crazy, I bet nobody here's looked that closely at a ferrari they're not much better (maybe this particular GT was a poor one, but it's kind of rought to judge the lot by one example)

supercars are judged by a different standard than somebody's daily driver

fit and finish, reliability, economy

they all take back seat to wow factor and performance, the GT certainly has visual appeal and performs like MO fo
for a supercar it's a bargain

don't judge it by the same criteria of a accord, or a car that costs triple (carrera gt)
