ANYONE WITH STREET RACING EXPERIENCE KNOW WTF IM TALKING ABOUT?

Well, I guess its good to see most of the BMW owners here are
mature enough not to street race and have no experience regarding street
racing.

theclay, I am sorry. Taking english 101 class this term. I thought I was in
E90POST, not EnglishPost.
If the cop tells me the Oregon laws on drunk driving, that's good enough for me. I don't need to drive drunk through Portland to REALLY know about it.

The point is, the cop has more credibility than you because he is a cop and you are not.

Calm down and good luck with that english class.

yeah EXACTLY. And I am telling you, when I got pulled over 3 years
ago with my Honda Accord v6(caught for street racing), the cop
told me I could've gotten my car impounded, fine worth $3000
and license taken away until Iam 21.

There are so many out there who went through this. This is
common knowledge between japanese import owners/tuners.

Yes, I fully understand what you mean by "credibility". Like I said,
I am just sharing my experience and what I've learned about it,
so that the others know what could happen when they street race.

I'm going to have to side with lux.sh regarding serious penalties for petty violations. Do I disagree with BMW_Lawman? No. I would take sides with his interpretations of the law. Do I disagree with lux.sh's superficially exaggerative consequences of particular crimes/violations? No.

Why? I've personally witnessed bad cops in my life and during my childhood days growing up in the projects (all of my first 18 years), I saw tons of bad cops. Cops who shoot-before-they-talk. Cops who brutalize people down, beat them further, and then later radio off "resisting arrest." Some of my buddies end up in the juvie where a white, suburban kid would just get counseling for physical assault against another kid. My dad was arrested for domestic disturbance. He got mad at my mom tore up the entire apartment. He never attacked my mom; he never did his whole life. Cops came, busted him, brutalized a man who did not resist arrest, and jailed him. No charges were pressed (by my mom), but he was jailed. In fact, jailed for a month. What else could a Chinese man with desultory English do? The cops are incontrovertibly right? Please. I wouldn't say anything better of our (racist) judicial system.

People like to preach about "the law is the law," blah, blah, blah. How many times did I see cops bust into homes without search warrants? How about police brutality? I've seen lots of arrests in the hood, yet I've only heard the recitation of one's rights on COPS on FOX. Please, anybody who believes all cops are good is simply being ignorant and in denial of the realstic world...or perhaps you're fortunate enough to be raised as a middle-class white individual. Cops are purportedly obligated to follow the law and carry out their strict codes of procedure but do they all? The simple fact is no. They do stupid things, and rescind/coverup their actions when they're facing pressure either legally or publicly. Sure, they can impound your car or arrest/jail you for speeding 10 over 35 if they wanted. They'll just cite you on false infractions if they wanted to afflict more damage.

Why don't you ask a black teenager living in a development if all cops are righteous men who are always hewing to their codes and protocols of being the protective servants of society? Oh, there's no need. He'd agree with me.

Exactly. While I do agree that it is not a "common case", it could
be just police officers scaring off street racers by giving out search
comments, but that is the reality I wanted to point out.

There has been numerous news about a bill passing in oregon state
to make street racing violation as a felony. This was back in 2002.

Also, in oregon state, I believe Street racing is considered Class A misdemeanor.
Which is same level as reckless driving and driving under the influence
which could mean up to six months in jail and a fine of up to $2,500.
(Remember, I am not only mentioning "speeding", but STREET racing/events.)

In several other states, bills already passed where the government
granted rights to tow vehicle up to 30 days(texas i believe). Last
I checked, california police officers have right to permanently impound
cars and sell it off in auction for cheap. This has been big issue,
as some people argued that it is not the right thing to do.

Oregon state, being one of the most strict state when it comes
down to DMV and Traffic violations, I believe they do have pretty
strict rules regarding street racing.

BMW_Lawman did mention there is NO ORS that actually says "impound vehicle", which is true.
Law set in 1983,
811.125 Speed racing on highway; penalty. Class A traffic violation.
And one in 2003,
811.127 Organizing a speed racing event; penalty. Class C felony.

But any police officer can throw in Reckless driving and impound your car. They can always get around it, and put you in serious trouble. You should know better since you are an officer.
Since when police officers were so nice to street racers?
And Class C felony sounds pretty damn serious to me.

BMW_Lawman, what is your name and which police district in oregon
do you work in? I am going to visit Public information officer in
washington county police district to get detailed info about oregon
restriction regarding street racing. I plan on mentioning your name
and what you've told me in this thread to see what kind of response
I get from traffic violation specialist.

It might be useful to read the Community Rules again.
The penalties for 'personal insults' are harsher than those for street racing.
I think we would all be happier with more engineering and less personal commentary on this list.
