My neighbor is super anal.

He yelled at my wife once when my beautiful golden chewed on his lawn.

Now, he put mothballs all around his property. Like around where dogs pee: the lamppost, his mailbox, his flowerbeds. All in his front yard by the sidewalk.

Is this legal? Is he violating any Laws?

Thank you for your advice.

Your title says puppy murderer. Has he actually killed your dog?

I went back to title "attempted" but it won't let me.

Why shouldn't he be allowed to place mothballs on his own lawn? The sidewalk would be a different story, however, and I wouldn't know.

Really? You think it's ok to put poisonous traps in your own lawn to kill or maim household pets?

Sorry, I guess I should have realized its ok to have a callous disregard for man's best friend. Just so your damn lawn looks good.

My dog is always on a leash. His only access to my neighbors yard is the grass by the sidewalk. Which he did eat once.

You asked if it was legal to do so. And I told you it is indeed legal. Keep your dog on a leash and you shouldn't have a problem.

Well, let's see. My dog walks on the sidewalk (legal) and he eats a mothball placed near the sidewalk.

My dog is on a leash.

If he eats the toxic mothball he could get very sick. So, I don't see how you are correct in saying I shouldn't have a problem.

Again, you asked if it is legal, and it is. However, if they get onto the sidewalk, there's a problem for not only your dog, but others as well. If you're concerned tell someone who can do something about it. Perhaps you should say that they've already been moving onto the sidewalk, so as not to wait before an incident occurs. See what your town can do for you.

What if your dog eats some toxic weed killer? What about snail poison? Do I agree this is what should be done? no, but it is the homeowners yard and it would be my responsibility as the dogs owner to ensure my dog does not eat anything from a neighbors yard.

I hate people who think their dog is another human, control your animal. Keep your pet from eating people's lawn and keep your animal from shitting and pissing on other peoples property or the front of their property.

Would it be ok if I just pulled my privates out in front of the "public" sidewalk in front of your home and just took a piss, that's how I feel about people who let their damn dogs piss and shit on my lawn or the front of my sidewalk.

I'd put moth balls out there too. The problem here isn't the dog though, as always it's the owner.

Look, I made it clear my dog is a pet. I made it clear he is always on a leash. He is not a menace. He is a dog.

However, I see where this is going.

I thought there would be at least one dog lover on this board. I will pick up my marbles and go home.

I hate neighbors who don't pick up after their pet's poop. If I knew who it was I'd take a shovel of that poop and throw it at their front door.

Well, I always bag any poop. I do see neighbors that don't bag their poo. It bugs me since it gives the people that do clean up a bad rep.

I am definitely a dog lover but also respect the property of others. In this case, the title and content of the thread are so far apart as to suggest there is an unreasonable dog owner who might live next door to someone else who could be unreasonable or maybe got pushed over the edge by their neighbor with a dog. I'm feel there might be more to the story that led up to the neighbor buying moth balls to spread all over the property.

If you don't feel you can go over and talk to the guy and reason with him, call the HOA if you have one and see if he broke an association rule. If not and you really think the neighbor is trying to kill your dog call the police, SPCA or other local animal protection advocate who may be able to help you sort things with your neighbor before things escalate further.

Are you the neighbor? I get not wanting anyone to leave dog crap behind and wouldn't do that, but dog piss outdoors is seriously a problem for you too?

Well, there really is nothing more to the story. My neighbor chewed out my wife. And then he apologized.

My dog is a golden. He is 99% the calmest, fun loving dog, and 1% sheer nuts.

He does pee. And, it looks like the neighbor put mothballs in places where dogs tend to pee.

Since everything was fine, the only thing I can surmise is that my neighbor is really mad at another's dog. This would make sense since we were on talking terms and if I did something to bother him I would expect him to talk first.

I used to be ambivalent toward animals. I used to hate cats. So, I completely understand people that think animal owners are blubbering idiots.

But, my wife changed all that and now I like dogs and cats. But, I am very respectful of others property. So, I don't think of myself as a clueless pet owner that thinks his pet is human.

I have to tell you, I have a real problem walking in to an animal hospital and seeing all of the same life saving machines you find in your human emergency room. Until every last human suffering has been abolished, then and only then should we spend tens of thousands of dollars on medical equipment for animals.

I get physically ill when I stop to consider the lame extent we go to save our pets from medical disease and injury when those same machines could be used to curtail human suffering.

I confronted a vet on this very subject. They turned bright red with embarrassment. I guess I was too hard on them because I think he felt bad dedicating his whole career as a specialist running special machines to save animals when there is so much human suffering in this world.

But, I am also a hypocrite that if my stupid dog needed access to a life saving machine I would probably consider it.

Maybe your neighbor is simply using moth balls as a deterrent, not realizing they are toxic, and if you told him perhaps the problem would get resolved.
