Blimey! stock M8 vs. tuned X3M on drag strip

… and the "Blimey" was for the X3M's performance--HOLY $HIT!

Nonetheless, the M8 showed its heritage and ran a high 10s in the 1/4 mile bone stock... but the X3M did, too (granted, not stock, but just an ECU tune it seems).

Well they both have launch control so the variability between drivers should boil down to reaction times, what's incredible is even when the M8 got the jump, the X3 was uber close at the traps during one race...holy schnikes!

126 traps for the M8, is that what was to be expected?

Stock, and in FL... yeah, that's about right. But it still made the 10s. Only a few years ago, that was reserved for supercars.

Then the X3M lays one down, too--HOLY HELL. 9s are the new 10s I guess.

But then again, those M5/8 look pretty sick and everybody is expecting those cars to be fast, which is not the case with those Z3/4M in the same way...little do they know….

Since I own both vehicles and can attest that my tuned (RaceChip) X3M is an absolute rocket. Especially once it gets moving from say 3000rpm it screams. I can honestly believe 10s for a tuned X3Mc since I am willing to bet mine on a perfect launch with a sticky track and tires would do that. The S58 motor is truly a beast and probably one of the best turbocharged 6 cylinders on the market ever. It just goes to show the engine building skills of BMW. The Ford GT makes 650hp from a 3.5 liter twin turbo V6 and the S58 could easily do that with the right tune. A new M3 CS or M4 CS or GTS would be awfully close to that number with an engine much smaller than the Ford. Also the weight comes into play as the X3M for an SUV is not that heavy vs 5000+lb SUVs like the X5M etc.
