It amazes me how they are able to make 2 ton cars as fast as they are. 10 years ago if someone told me an M5 can been clocked at as low as 2.8 seconds to 60, I would have called them crazy!

If you compare the C&D M5 base review they had 0-60 at 2.8 sec, and 1/4 mile at 10.9 sec and 129 mph, that's significantly faster, Comp will shave 0.3 sec off that 1/4 mile time, that's hundreds of feet difference at the finish

Wow. Good torque and 0-60 figures.

Seems as if the design teams are far behind the performance teams.

Yes, it's quite large, especially given that it's a de jure 2-seater.
I suppose it's all about trying to appear "stylish".....

N/S63B44xx is hands down one of the most impressive motors to ever come out of Germany. Love that BMW stuck to it's base foundations and simply kept making improvement rather that scraping and starting from scratch as they used to in the past.

Tested by the same publication, the M5 is significantly faster.

The regular M5 got a 0-100mph of 6.6s by C&D. When you compare these times, you really can't compare across publications. They all test these differently and C&D tend to get the absolute fastest times of anybody. C&D got a 0-60 of 2.8s for the base M5.

Here's the difference, M5 listed first, M850 listed second both tests done by C&D:

Test: M5, M850i
0-60: 2.8, 3.3
0-100: 6.6, 7.6
0-150: 15.9, 18.5
5-60: 3.7, 4.3
30-50: 2.2, 2.3
50-70: 2.4, 2.7
1/4: 10.9@129, 11.5@123
Top Speed: 163, 159
70-0: 147ft, 161ft
skidpad: 0.98g, 098g

Over 200lbs heavier than an F13 650i Coupe but with AWD and more torque to get all that mass moving quicker. No thanks BMW. Do all that you have done but make the M850i less than 4,100lbs and you have my money BMW. Also offer an Manual Transmission and I'll be the first one on the order list.

Coming from F90 M5 and I have to say it's wicked fast ( Specially after tune and other modes ) but for me it needs to be smaller lighter and MT it's a must for me.

No, C&D clocked the M5 (non-compete) quicker as noted below:

C/D TEST RESULTS:
Zero to 60 mph: 2.8 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 6.6 sec
Zero to 130 mph: 11.1 sec
Zero to 150 mph: 15.9 sec
Rolling start, 5-60 mph: 3.7 sec
Top gear, 30-50 mph: 2.2 sec
Top gear, 50-70 mph: 2.4 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 10.9 sec @ 129 mph
Top speed (governor limited): 163 mph
Braking, 70-0 mph: 147 ft
Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 0.98 g

here's the "estimated" M5 Comp data which is most likely correct based on their testing and history

Zero to 60 mph: 2.8 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 6.6 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 10.9 sec
Top speed: 155–189 mph
